I have just purchased an extremely old Motorhome. It is a 1982 Mercedes Challenger Carlton. I can find no mention anywhere of this model.

The engine is supposed to be a 2.4L 308D (according to the emblem on the cab side panel) but the fitted Glow Plugs have the part number for a 3.0L 5 cylinder engine. The air filter for a 308D should be a circular shape but the air filter box on the engine is cylindrical! I can find no reference to a 2.4L 300 series in 1982.

Can anyone throw any light on this model or which engine it really is?

Thanks

If you can supply the VIN - right hand side footwell, you can then go to Mercedes-Benz Club Russia | Mercedes-Benz / VIN will give you the exact (well maybe) details on how the vehicle left the factory. What gets done in the intervening years is anyone's guess. The datacard will give you original engine number, gearbox, axles, etc.

?????? gives you parts catalogue.

The glow plugs are the same for a whole range of diesel engines that MB produce - Unimogs, Trucks, T1 vans, G Wagons, sedan cars and wagons.
