Now I've got your attention!!
We hate that advert, but, we always use that phrase to say we are using outside amenities for a p--!
Wild Camping.
Have been a member for about a year now, and love it! We are regular visitors to the site and enjoy everyones experiences. We have certainly used some of the information, enjoyed some lovely spots, and have contributed some nice places too.
We do however, feel that, sometimes people want to share their experiences but not their venues.
Isn't the whole point of belonging to 'WILD CAMPING' an opportunity to share some nice parking spots? Discretion is the key, but surely, we can share between ourselves where these places are.
We know that when we are on the road we belong to a 'big club' - we acknowledge each other on the road and all of us would help a stranded motorhome owner if we could, so why is there this small cluster of people with the mentality of 'that's my place' and 'I found that spot'.
The majority of us make the most of any spare time that we have to 'escape and enjoy', so come on guys - join the club with a generous heart, a positive approach, and communicate to that huge number of enthusiasts awaiting that 'new special place'!
We are all on the same side! 7,000 members and rising, think about it - if each member shared one spot, we could all find stop overs, up and down the country, with the knowledge that we would be relatively safe, in a nice spot, and with other members of our club!
Remember, we will not all arrive at the same time and we will not over subscribe the venue - unless we all win the lottery at the same time!!
Until then, most of us just make the most of our spare time and try to live our dream!

I agree with your sentiments pretty much to the letter.

Although there are nominally "8000" members, nearly 6000 of these have 0 posts and a further 1000 only 1 or 2 posts. It's a fair bet to say the active community is much smaller. More like in the hundreds so there's plenty of places to go round.

In the end it's down to people's personal preference, whether or how they want to share which of their locations, I hope they do though!

But if they don't, I think it's best for them to keep silent, and not to keep saying "I'm not posting about location Y for reason X" At least that way, what we don't know about, we can't fret over, and everyone has an easier life :D

It would be great to share all our spots - and that's what I did when I first joined on here.

But the problem is not all these 8000 members / users treat these spots with respect.:mad:

I posted a thread on here for my local area, for a gentleman looking for a spot.
He came and stayed, had a good night which was great - but then a few days later 5 big motorhomes took the place over:confused::mad:

It might just be coincidence but I will never know:confused:

I will happily PM anyone with any info I may have:D

think a few have secret locations as its there favorite spot..we have a few secret places as we both like to get away from people and just have the day or afternoon to ourselves and relax....but there are a lot of places that can safely accomadate a few campers at one time..also its a good idea to warn others about places that are not safe to overnight..I certainly know of 1.(framlingham theres a little layby covered with trees near a big old house thats been empty near the euston turnoff.this layby is frequented by the local boy racers playing there music very loud.which i have no problem as they are not near houses but if a overnighter turns up i doubt they will turn it down..(Am speaking from experiance of that location)

If I find a nice place Id love to share it with enthusiasts ..I love to take pictures as you can see on my other topics as I love to share our experiences..(photo whore):p
But I agree some people take advantage and spoil it for others ... We love to go to shows /festivals etc with our friends but when it comes to wildcamping we tend to go by ourselves or with one other couple as some of my friends wouldnt know how to treat these places with respect .. Until Rachy puts them in their place :p

Loving the title by the way ;)

I have to admit I tend to be a bit cautious. I mentioned once two areas close to my house (fine, no objection to them being used) then came back one day to find two vans in my drive filling their tanks from an outside tap.

I just dont think the wild camping community is that big in the UK that it should be a problem sharing, I certainly dont keep anything to myself. We frequent the Isle of Arran which is a superb wild spot. We frequently see MH's there but I would say 80% of them use the campsites. We have around half a dozen or so fav spots and never have a problem getting in one of them on our own. Have found it similar in the Lakes, Dales and other parts of Scotland. We really are a minority unlike other EU countries. One rule I have though is not to follow the crowds. There is a a tendancy for us MH's to see a couple of vans parked and think oh that must be a good spot to park, lets join them. I do the opposite. One van parked discretely will probably be ignored by most but half a dozen may not be. And all this "Strength in Numbers" boll..ks is stupid. If it dont feel safe then dont stay there, find a CL or a campsite or a wild spot that you know to be safe.

Just my opinion.

I remember that Sagart.
I don't know how you managed to restrain yourself.

Be fair I did apologise I didn't know he had a water meter. I think it was rather rude not to offer me a cooked breakfast.

Then it was you who was sucking Sagarts watertap ! Shame on you :):D

There wasn't as sign saying not to use it so I helped myself. I didn't think anyone would mind. I popped my rubbish at the side of his bin as I didn't want to fill his bin up.

Sounds a bit cheeky that my friend! However, if we don't 'poo at Paul's' have you any suggestions??
