Being parked up for a long time the motorhome starter battery wasn't really getting sufficient charge from the leisure batteries via solar and the Votronic stand by charger. So I hooked up my new 6A battery charger and though it was bulk charging at a constant 5.9A, the charge voltage was all over the place between 12.2 and 12.7v which seemed rather odd as well as being low! The internal MH lights were flickering too, then I noticed that the leisure battery voltage was also jumping around between 13 to 13.8v but it's pitch black outside and not on EHU either, so something a bit odd was happening. My first thought was maybe the Votronic unit, but knew that couldn't account for the wide voltage differences, but still disconnected the starter battery wire from it for elimination purposes, but no change. Then I thought well what else kind of connects SB to LB and remembered the Ablemail 30A B2B. Yep, that was the issue it was trying to pull power through the battery charger, which I guess makes sense when you think about it. So I disconnected +ve from SB and charger was still doing a steady 5.9A but now at a steady 13.5v but climbing over time and when I looked much later it was doing 4.6A at 14.8v so all seems well. Gee, I only wanted to simply charge a battery but now know that it's best to disconnect first so as not to confuse the electronic gizmos! 🤯

Hence I keep things simple and separate units, nothing to fancy, votronic 250w duo & numax 10ah auto charger and 200ah relay to link all batts together for charging and on the road, switch turned of when parked up as not to run the starter battery down.

I installed a Victron solar controller and hooked it up to leisure battery. I have also installed a 600w inverter. I have a small 5A battery charger for the vehicle battery if needed with a 13A plug on it. So we can charge the vehicle battery via the inverter. There are other ways but this is the simplist I could think of while we are away without many tools and only Amazon Prime for delivery 😁 That will teach us to use non EHU sites.
Charging via an inverter, 🤔 ehu to charger, no plugs or inverters required.
