In happier past times I have habitually taken a trailer or towed car, but i have read that only the vehicle you are travelling in can cross freely and that a trailer is regarded as a separate item requiring clearance/paperwork. I have personal effects in Spain which I need to recover. Not really worried about UK customs.
Hopefully someone has some experience of this, thanks in advance.

Seems the EU and the UK have done a great job of making all this as complicated as possible.

Commercial vans are having a similar headache, but trailer regulations are covered Here seems if its NOT commercial then your ok upto 3500kgs trailer weight but read it carefully rather than take my interpration of the rules as gospel.
