To really benefit from a portable power station some form of
solar generation is required, the larger the unit the larger the panel required.
Would agree that with the rapid AC charging, the app and the
inverter spec, the new Ecoflow LifeP04 range appear to be ahead of the rest at the moment. As already reported none of these are in the sale however there are some units still worth looking at as there are some rapid chargers in the sale.
For those who do not want to mess with their typical motorhome original equipment factory set up of power unit and charger, lead acid
battery and 100w roof panel, then as back up power to extend off grid life in between site visits to use the hook up, these type of units can be an asset.
You can either use the power station to power a lot of the stuff that you would otherwise be plugging into or using with your motorhome 12v system, such as phone and tablet charging, TV, lighting, and therefore reducing draw on your lead acid
battery, or use it as a hook up and top up the lead acid
battery using the onboard
battery charger if the sun is not shining and no
solar is being generated. Not so efficient use of power I know but you can use all systems at the same time while doing this. You might get an extra 3 or 4 days off grid before using a site hook up for 1 night to recharge everything. Thinking U.K. winter here. In a U.K. summer you should never really require hook up if you have sufficient
solar.
It has to be said for U.K. campervan use for which wildcamping options are rather greater (no height barrier issues and easier to stealth park) than for those who have motorhomes then these types of units are surely a must have?
Edit: just to add that I wanted massive power at the expense of features and rapid charging so recently purchased a Bluetti EB240 at a very good price. Older tech I know with snail pace AC charging but it met my requirements with 2400ah power at just over 45p per ah, 2500 cycles to 80%, the sockets I require, and reasonable
solar charging performance. Not used it in anger yet but during a storage compound visit did try it as a 4amp hook up and the motorhome systems worked fine including the lead acid
battery charger.
Also purchased a 200w panel at a bargain price so should be all good for Spain.
In saying this I do like the look of the Ecoflow River 2 as it has some additional features I could use to supplement the Bluetti as well as its lightweight portability and small size.
