I just got post through my door.

They were delivering in Hertfordshire.

Anyway, we don't care if they strike or not, we'll just use the Internet and couriers. They're toothless now, and will only damage their own job prospects by striking.

Its the sorting offices that are striking today - posties' turn tomorrow!

I think they're doing it on a one day on one day off rolling rota. Posties one day, sorting offices the next.

Spoke to our "postie" a couple of days ago.
The idea of different branches going on strike on different days is to cause as much disruption as possible.
He said that if it was an all-out strike, then people such as office workers and other admin staff could be given the days off as well and it would cost Royal Mail less.
Don't know how that works but he knows better than I suppose.

A postie friend of mine says the PO is reducing his pension from next year. He will get a lot less and if he leaves before 65, he loses everything under this new scheme.

Shades of Robert Maxwell.

I am pleased to be retired now as companies are run by self seeking idiots who could not run a market stall. It is just another step on the ladder for them and they do not give a damn about the company or employees.

As far as I am concerned, there is no word in the English language for "Manager". They no longer exist since accountants started running companies. This country became great because of engineers, not accountants

Rant over.

Could not agree with you more! Sometimes I think this country is going backwards....

Nichodia
Not only yours. Belgium could be in front of you going backwards.;)
(but this is the real 'apecountry')

We had a postal delivery today, I have every sympathy with the post workers taking strike action, I was in the Car industry for thirty years and we had our fair share of strikes, but our working conditions ,pay, holiday entitlement and retirement package was second to none, that's why I was able to retire at 55 years old.It sickens me now to see the way the Car industry has gone as far as the workers who have given away all the good things we fought for over the years in the name of progress and they are losing their jobs in the hundreds at Southampton in spite of giving their all.

What with living in a global market now, strikes in most industries don't have the same effectiveness as they once might have done, in fact they are probably ultimately going to cost the workers their jobs. The best thing to do, if one doesn't like the pay and conditions is to vote with your feet.

Where to though?, there are so many out of work now that employers can pick and choose, and the rates for just about every industry are dropping daily. If you won't work for that particular wage there are people queing up who will.
