Has anybody got any deterrents for mice? Him wot does testnical aka Grand Wanderer, Michael, has discovered that they have been gnawing at the insulation under the bonnet of the van. He painted a solution of oil of cloves and peppermint oil.. meeces aren't supposed to like it.. all around the engine compartment the other day, but there were fresh teeth marks on the insulation again today. So far they don't seem to have got inside or chewed through any wiring. Fingers crossed, touch wood etc!
We have been keeping the van on a field at a friends place but have moved it on to the roadside near our home in the hope that we are less vulnerable. just hope they haven't made a nest and moved with the van!
HELP!!

Mice

Hi Sue
I would set some traps to be on the safe side.
We once parked our car at Newcastle Airport and when we returned the bottle of water that I had left on the floor in the front had been chewed by mice, we happened to mention it to our friend who is a farmer and he told us the mouse would be in the car.
We set traps and caught it under the back seats three days later, luckly no damage.
We have had mice in our motorhome.
When we moved it into our current storage I accidently left some chocolate bars in a cupboard.
BIG MISTAKE Thay had been chewed, we went home and got the traps.
We caught just one little blighter and have none since.
But we did put the traps back 2 weeks ago for the winter, we use Mars bars which are sticky.
Hope you have seen the last of your invaders
Sue

dont know of a deterant .but have taken a few on holiday even to maroc and back. had one that i just couldnt catch . .i use the maroc little nipper traps like ours but in metal with sharp teeth allround the edge. had it living in the trailer for 6 months then got home and saw it climb out and run behind the garage . havent had it since it didnt like the thought of missing home so it stays here now.i finf they like nibbling potatoes and tomatoes as well. cheers alan.

Chilli powder works to detur squirrels it may also work with mice.

i do hope you had your little friend covered with a pets passport and it was up to date with its jabs ;);):D

just goes to show i was inspected by the dogs in maroc and spain and in plymouth . they never looked for anything . but good job i dont carry other things. could have been people tortoises lizards etc but no only a mouse. takes some beating though 6 months we were out for if you wanted to take a dog or cat not on a lead it would have run away but the little mouse waited till a couple of days at home and as we left the kitchen door it hopped from the rear of the chassis and went. you could hear it at night made tunnels all over the place . bits of insulation fell out . thought about poison but it may have died in behind a panel plus the dog may have got some. never mind makes a good story . but its true . ask my mate it kept going in his bag and eating paper hankies he brought. and sleeping in with his clothes . i laughed . came out for 6weeks never came again didnt like the company. ha ha . have fun we do .cheers alan.

hi Sue
I have used moth balls in the past ,not the wooden ones just the old type that are white ones found that they worked fine for me , the little b –s ate right thru bedding and some elec cables, this idea was given to me by a friend that was four years ago no trouble since, Good luck.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. There's been no further nibblings.. that we can see.. so far. Fingers crossed that the critters have gone.
Sue :)

If they're confined to a smallish area and under cover, you could try the sticky glue pads. As they walk across them they get stuck. You'll need to check them regularly and then dispense with whomever you catch though...

Mice

Hi Sue I have a trident and had bother with mice nibbling under the bonnet and getting in behind the units under the sink.I got the tip of of hanging old style mothballs in a cotton bag and have had no problems since. You can get them from any decent hardware store in ball form.Hope this helps.

Do you need good aim though? The mice I've seen run really quickly. Not as quickly as my dog though...:D
