By just wondered if anyone had any info on the mk 1 hymer exsis 2006
Drop down bed gas struts getting the bed up and down is a nightmare lol it crashes down and I nearly get a hernia pushing it back up .I think possibly the struts have been replaced with the wrong ones in the past as they show a pressure of 200n and on eBay various seller are quoting pressures for drop down beds of between 1300 n and 1700 n

Thanks Terry fixed now brought from SGS engineering they were 200 Newton's after all

My Hymer bed struts had to be replaced, shortly after I bought it.

Being initially unfamiliar with the mechanism, I was struggling to get it operating. Having a kingsize bed over the rear garage, the front one was obsolete so I removed the mattress and designated the area as light storage.

So, I've arrived in Calais late evening on a rainy night. The bed had been bouncing slightly with the bumps and potholes in the road all day.

A couple of big jolts and the bed came down almost to my headrest. I had to find a pull over toot sweet and sort it out.

The webbing catch was slack so I shoved the bed up as far as I could and tightened the webbing as far as I could.
It was better and got me to my park up and was left for attention in the morning.

I had a closer look the next morning and discovered oily residue on the side of the dash. One of the struts was leaking and not functioning, so placing the whole load on the other side which couldn't cope with the extra work. Neither could the webbing and strap struggled to hold it up for long.

I had to really tighten the webbing as short as possible and secure the straps with thumbscrew type clamps to hold the webbing in place and prevent it sliding loose.

6-7 months later, when back in the UK, I replaced both struts (what a palaver) and as Terry said earlier, the difference is amazing, it's so easy to have it rise and fall now.

So if yours is heavy and difficult to operate, you might have one failed strut and one that is working to exhaustion, either of which risks the bed come crashing down while you are driving.
