Hi
has anyone on here got a hymer 494 post 2004 ? ...i am looking for one but am a bit concerned that only having a 2.0jtd engine it will be underpowered even though it is a small van , only 5meters or so . Does anyone have any experience of driving a small 1.9td or 2ltr coachbuilt ....say a swift 520 or autocruise vista?. Currently i have an old swift royal 2.5d non turbo and it is so sloooooooooooow it puts me off driving it incase i fall asleep. Any advice gratefully recieved

Thanks for the advice ***** :D
The reason i am looking at the 494 is because it is about the smallest coachbulit available. I would be happy with a t5 camper but mrs Chef insists there has to be a wash room , toilet etc and the 494 would have a lot more space with not much bigger footprint.
I have looked at The adria twin as well but it is a good bit longer than the hymer and feels a bit cramped inside . The hymer c544 would have a very similar layout to my (not very ) swift but again size matters if you are trying to park up
Most of the time there would only be two of us and the due to the nature of my business it would often be used as a day van rather than the long tours like some of you lucky buggers enjoy !

with the absence of the 'thanks' button .....thanks for this usefull post !!

Why don't you see if you can get a test drive of a similar size of van with that engine (there must be some about), I would think that any van you drive with a turbo will surprise you with how it performs. We had a short wheel base Renault Master with a 2.5 non turbo, plenty of pulling power but once it got to around 45/50 it was really slow to actually get it up to 70.
