Hull / Rotterdam Ferry Tip

Hello
Had to go to Germany in a hurry last week. I live in North Lancashire and didn't fancy the trek down to Dover. Did not want to book a return because I did not know when I would be able to return. Saturday night ferry came up single £179 or a one day return £80. Needless to say I booked a one day return and didn't use the return.
Incidentally first time I've used this crossing and will be using it again. By the time you take into account fuel saving it's not much more expensive and saves a long drive down to Dover.

Can't remember what it cost but we were regular passengers on this crossing since I was in BAOR in the early 70s. Then it was the MV Norland. More recently we have crossed on the Pride of Hull and Pride of Rotterdam which we enjoyed very much.
Always looked on the crossing as a treat and well worth the money.
My first trip back from Germany was from the Hook of Holland to Harwich. That was overcrowded and terrible. People sleeping on the stairs and others puking in the toilets. Inedible expensive food. We haven't been back.
I will only use North Sea ferries now. Good nights sleep, decent breakfast and fresh for the days drive.
We were on the Hull to Zebrugge crossing when the ferry caught fire but i've forgiven then for that.
As I said not the cheapest, especially if you use the restaurant, but well worth the money. From my West Yorkshire home it also saves a very long drive with all the expenses etc. involved.

:danger: they will have your number on the computer you may ncounter problems next thm you book theyre notstupid y'know although like other ferry companies especially Stena .they do act stupid AND DO STUPID THINGS ;)

People, join the "camping-cheques" club (free to join) and if you book via their site its 1/2 price and the buffet evening meal and buffet breakfast is only £10 pp per meal (all you can eat) if booked via their site price is normally £18:50.

The last time we came back on North sea ferries there were a lot of German drivers in the restaurant complaining about the price and quality of food on English motorways. They were busy packing food into bags under the table for the trip.

Hello

Just trying to pass on a money saving tip. If some of you are too wimpy to use that's up to you.

Hi Blue Skies, Tried that myself several years ago on Speed Ferries but unfortunately as I didn't return in the 24hr period they deducted the difference of the single cost from my bank account. Never tried it since!

I live in Hull but would never go from here cos its far too expensive!!

Ferry Fares

We have just returned from our Ski Holiday.
We used Hull to Rotterdam.
I book through the Caravan Club Website and add 7 camping cheques which then gived you ITX fares.
We payed £238 return for a 7 metre van including the cheques.
We stayed on winter sites in France and Belgium some even had a swimming pool.
Hope this may help someone

Although still expensive, this might be useful to know.

We've almost always used Brittany Ferries because we have family in Devon and it's useful to visit relatives on our way to and from France. So we joined the Property Owners' Club which gives almost a third discount on fares and other little benefits - and we've been members for fifteen years or more. When we were travelling two or three times a year, and remembering the advantages of the western crossings, this has been useful to us. The past year or two we've only been travelling once a year but we still keep the membership though it's not maybe the value to us it once was.

A few months ago the Property Owners' Club became the "Club Voyage" and there is now no requirement to prove that you own property in France so, I should think, it's probably available to anyone who wants it.

The crossings seem expensive but it might be worth a look. We still keep our membership. And at Plymouth, Roscoff and Ouistreham they don't seem to mind you overnighting at the port waiting area and we've done it all the time.
