Loaded Hugo with scooter, 3/4 tank of water and fuel, chairs, windbreaks, sat dish, tools, all domestic bits except clothes and food. Sat Jan and grandchild in the back and went to the weighbridge near us. It's normally a fiver a go, but as we had three weighs it was a tenner. Results below:

Vehicle Plate Data

If you do the arithmetic I have 780kg spare on the rear axle and 310 on the front, and 720 overall. I don't really have anything to say to those doom merchants out there.....

thats the way . at least you have a good idea now .
at least now you have a starting point .
good job you have a highish gvw to start with .

That should see him over the weekend, as long as he uses some restraint.

why waste payload with bottles . use the litre tetra packs get much more wine in .
shame they dont do spanish brandy in lightweight plastic bottles . ha ha .
have found some nice scotch in plastic bottles .

2000 Kg for trailer too, should be enough for a long weekend. :)

By carrying the scooter and rack you take perhaps 100kg off the front axle so potentially you have a better balanced van it's a win win!!

I make Maggy sit on the bike rack, it has the same effect:dog:

Why is it a win win situation, fact or opinion?

I have to say that on the run down through Spain the van felt light on the front during the serious cross winds we encountered. I got used to it though!

They now do at Carrefour.

Does it weigh more, less or the same after you have drunk it?

The van has 300 Kg load margin on the front with the scooter on the back, a reasonable amount of leeway. With the scooter off the back the front may then have only around 200 Kg load margin, not a lot by my standards. The rear axle has plenty of spare load capacity in either condition. It's a win win because by carrying a scooter that's a plus ie a win and additionally the front axle load is reduced.

Do you reckon this is fact or opinion?

all i know is conde noble is fine . its well drinkable . well the red is . not so keen on the white . it was 76/78cents when i left spain earlier this year. i dont bother to look at the %volume its ok . used to be vino tramonte , that was ok as well.
years ago i used to buy french wine . but find now spanish is ok and cheaper . but i do like pays deherault or something like that .
i prefer beer and i will say adelscot takes some beating .

I don't know much about wine, but I know what I like

I think it was Stephen Fry who said much the same thing, but he wasn't talking about wine and was quite rude!

We are meeting friends at the marina at the end of Sept, so we will stay there for a couple of weeks, but we are undecided at the moment as to how to get there. Fly in and out, and take Hugo down south nearer Xmas, or take Hugo to the boat sooner and go south from there. We could park up in Benidorm and look for a nice villa.....
We used to be indecisive but now we are not so sure!

it can be hard to make a decision when you have nice things to choose from .
we leave for santander in november , desination santander end of april . never know where we are going but know it will be ok . or we move afew miles further on . like i said on another thread we could delay the departure in april if we arent in rush .

You have rightly noticed the tell tale signs of a light front end, and in wet conditions may well need more caution.
The vehicle when weighed had only 82% of it's permissible weight on the front axle adding further weight to the rear 1/2 of the vehicle or even further back will only decrease that percentage, steering, braking efficiency and traction will all be affected. (less tyre on the road)
Fuel usage will also reduce that %, raising the front tyres off the road surface assuming the tank is mounted just aft of the cab area.
Coming home should be fine, wine in the fresh water tank filled to the brim equilibrium achieved. :D

SNIP.

Whilst filling the fresh water tank with wine is a great idea, unfortunately I still have to drive the thing all the way home!

But those nicely shaped new litre Schweppes soda or tonic bottles (plastic of course) make lovely decanters :raofl:
