How to clean a stainless steel cooker hob

Hi there,

our T5 is receiving its annual clean up in readiness for the year to come. I was wondering if anyone had a technique for cleaning off the brown burnt on stains that are on our stainless steel cooker hob.

I tried the Cif stainless steel cleaner the other year but it certainly was no magic bullet. Is it a question of once the stain is there, it can't be removed, or is there hope?

regards,

Chris & Sharon

You could try a Brillo pad...cleans my s/s pans or fine wire wool

Sprinkle with bicarbonate of soda, shake vinegar over it and leave overnight if you can. It might still take a bit of elbow grease but it should do the trick. I have badly burnt ss pans but have managed to save them.

Get one of those stainless steel pan scrubbers, as stainless steel cleans stainless steel, I use one to clean the stainless steel tail pipe on our Auto Sleeper, comes up like new.

Believe it or not toothpaste is great for cleaning alloy or stainless sinks hobs damp corner of a cloth ad a bit of toothpaste and clean in a circular motion then polish with same but just paste and then polish it'll smell good to

Try coke, seems to clean just about everything off everything ... and maybe grease (elbow grease.)

my mum used to use fairy liquid and sugar instead of buying expensive swarfega (is that still around?) to get grease off a cooker... the sugar simply acts as an abrasive.... and the fairy as a degreaser

Only fairy I knew certainly wouldn't de-grease anything, and yes, Swarfega is still around, great stuff, never used it for cooking though.

£1 shop

Sanding blocks x4 wet and dry as there's no paint:hammer:

Try Starcleanse. Spray on - leave for a few minutes and most stuff washes off with a bit of help with the green Buffalo pads.

Angle grinder, fitted with wire brush...............guaranteed to work!

I use the lemon jiff cream. It is a fine abrasive. Circular motion with a damp cloth, wipe away afterwards and polish with a dry cloth.
This is how I clean my stainless steel kettle and toaster. (at home that is) had them both for over 8 years.
In the van the secret is NOT to leave it!! Deal with spills immediately.

Oven cleaner

I have used it on the hob with no ill effects. Just open windows and avoid squirting in jets.
