This happens with sheets of ice flying off the top of lorries at 50. Might only be ice, but it's blinking dangerous.

I got a sheet of plywood in the windscreen coming out of Grimsby a few years ago. Wagon in front didn’t drop it but it caused it to become airborne as it drove over it. Always a risk of something hitting you when out and about

Late friend of mine was on he M6 when the car in front lost part of his exhaust, it smashed through my friends windscreen and hit his head, friend was knocked unconscious and ended up the embankment. He was kept in hospital for a couple of days for concussion and stitches. My friend wasn't the same person after that incident, he had a personality change, his wife told us he became bad tempered, withdrawn and disinterested in the things he used to enjoy.

One of the things that haunts me is when I was 8 years old I was sent to the corner shop about 100 yards from home
As I turned the corner there was a young boy the same age as me at the time, screaming whilst a lot of adults were putting towels around his head that were really badly soaked in blood.
What had happened they were following a truck carrying scaffold planks and one of the planks slid off the truck and went through the windscreen slicing the top off the boys head.
Sadly he died later that day in hospital.
Even now when ever I see a truck carrying scaffold planks I either get past as quick as possible or hold a long way back.

Nasty :(

I remember I was driving towards wales on the non-Severn Bridge route (closed for weather) and I was behind a lorry with wheels on its flatbed. They did not look secure and didn't like the look of what might happen so I kept a very good distance from him and sure enough, hit a big bump and one departed.
If I kept the kind of distance you see people usually driving behind other vehicles I don't think I would be typing this message

I was travelling along the A27 near Havant, when a sailboard came off of a roof rack.
Fortunately, it went over me (and by now Brown Pants) and smashed itself to pieces on the hard shoulder.

You could try SURF to wash the pants. 😂 😂 😂

Not just glue buddy, each cross member is glued & screwed with tec screws straight through the roof into the steelwork under the roofskin.

3 of them, with siderails bolted down with 8mm bolts

Then there are more cross rails, with 8mm bolts fastening them on

Roofrack now holds 2 panel plus the wind out awning

Sorry I wasnt clear, I didn't mean you, I think you are in the same camp as me! I once saw velcro recommended on FB as fixing suggestion and it wasnt for one of those bendy panels either

Mine are solar panels are bolted down, however riding my gsx Katana along the A1 a bag of cement fell of the builder truck hit the ground and popped covering me and the bike in cement dust luckily visor was closed.
What a mess:(

IF anyone is concerned and wants extra peace of mind....

I've used A couple of short lengths of Gripple wire (galvanised wire) and 2 clutches as safety lines from the panel to the original roof rack.

So IF Everything else failed.... Tech screw mechanical fixings/sikaflex/power cables from panel etc etc

Then the panels are still attached by cables at the front edge that I regularly use to hang rather heavy aircon units over the top of folks heads.

To give you an idea of the strength I've stood with my foot in a loop of Gripple wire a worryingly height above the ground.... Without a safety net.

IF it will take my significant bulk......
