How do I fill my Motorhome during a Hosepipe Ban?

With this looming hosepipe ban in the south what effect will it have on the motorhome community?

Will we be reported by the local busybodies for using a hosepipe to fill our tank?

That would take about an hour with a 100l tank and the nearest tap to where I can park being about 60m away.

I would doubt if you could be prosecuted as the water is purely for domestic living cooking/washing use and not for watering as such.

I'm confused

I’ve spent a few days on a CL site doing some urgent running repairs.
Whilst there, I took my 3-gallon water containers to the site tap, only to discover that it has a 3-foot length of green stylee garden hosepipe connected to it, to facilitate the filling of containers.
Being a law-abiding, upright citizen, I was unsure if I should avail myself of this hosepipe in view of the impending ban.

Now call me silly, but is there a prescribed lower length limit on hosepipes, as I’d hate to have the H2O Nazis feeling my collar and relieving me of a £1000 fine?

It would theoretically be possible, with some nifty manoeuvring of the mobile hovel, to drive it close enough for the said hose to be inserted into the filler spout of the beast directly, yet presumably contravening:
Section 437A/SW5527/1870-C-47 Appendix SLD.. (Slapped Leg Directive) 2012.

The situation is further confused due to the rather sneaky long length of 3" guttering downpipe that allows the site paddling pool to be filled without recourse to a full length hosepipe.

Could someone please clarify my legal position, as a disorderly queue is beginning to form behind me as I contemplate this moral dilemma?

Hosepipe Ban

I was under the impression that the ban was to stop people watering gardens, washing drive ways and the like

We have a fitting that pushes in to socket, with a hosepipe attached, so you cant fill it up with a watering can. Think it is meant to work on pressure of the mains water. Can we fill it up any other way.

There's always a way around the directive as specified.

If for instance a long length of plastic water pipe was used (Speedfit for example) with a tap at the end it becomes a part of the building infrastructure, therefore it is not a hosepipe but a moveable tap.

It would have the advantage that it wouldn't add "taste" to the water as some non potable water hoses do.

OK it's not as convenient as a hose and I'd only use it if confronted by a Waterboard Official.

Why not just clarify with the water supply company, as it's for consumption I'd think they'd struggle to oppose. With their reply suitably laminated, when some jobsworth or interfering busybody confronts you, you can with a dramatic flourish produce the water company reply and in a loud voice tell them to F*CK OFF and mind their own business!!

Very little effect and i suspect that the local busy body for sure will grass you up given half an opportunity.
I have to fill my van up with 60ltrs of veg oil each week and for sure that doesn't come out of a hose pipe and have to carry said oil 70mtrs to van. Solution is one/two 20ltr plastic containers, one plastic funnel with a bendy end, one bungy cord with hooks both ends and a bit of cloth.
Stick funnel in hole, stuff rag in hole to secure bendy thing, attach bungy to roof gutter(or some other suitable high point) and edge of funnel so that it stays up right, fill water containers with water and pour into funnel. Repeat 5/2.5 times.

I don't have a water tank. I was mearly proposing that the way i fill up with veg oil could be copied for water.

According to the Anglia Water website you can use a hose for certain tasks and not for others. As far as I can tell filling up another water container is fine. So I'll be using my hose to fill the 'van when at home and by any other means when away.

Slightly different subject, but...At a few aires in France last year I was surprised to see several French guy dunking their buckets in the small river next to the site and using a funnel, filled up their water tanks that way. The river looked ok but it was running through a busy town. I guess they didn't drink from their tank but I wasn't brave enough and paid my 2€ to use the tap water :)

We have the same system, a fitting that locks on with a hose pipe attached. However, we also have a large (100mm) screw type lid located inside the 'van under an accessible floor panel where we have on many occasions filled up our fresh water supply. Do you have one too?

Don't stay there!!!
Come tae Scottieland fur the Summer, plenty o' watter here!!!!
