How busy does Orkney Mainland get in mid-July?

Can anyone please tell just us how busy with tourists Mainland Orkney gets mid July.... only we are planning a trip over for a week with friends who are very new to campervaning, and they are absolutely adamant that we should be booking campsites for every night we are there!!
We have done wildcamping on the Outer Hebrides in June and it was absolutely fine and not over crowded at all, but I realise Orkney is quite a bit smaller with a lot less roads.

We were thinking we would need perhaps a couple of nights on a camp site so we can empty the chemi-loo etc. but will we need to book them or will we be safe just trusting to luck.

I know it's a bit of a tricky question, but a little insider info may make our planning a bit easier and perhaps assure our friends that wildcamping is the way to go.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Orkney camping

There is at least 7 camps sites in Orkney I don't think you will need book in advance Orkney is a very busy place from June until September.
Weather can be good Wild camping all over the Island Toilets at most beauty spots.. It has been known for wild campers to visit camp sites in Stromness and Kirkwall to empty tanks etc BUT first try to find attendant if not it up to you Its best to ask good luck WHY NOT BECOME A SITE SUPPORTER.

Why? This is becoming tedious.

Thanks Brandyman

Thank you Brandyman, I found your answer quite useful, but I am also a little puzzled, because you say it gets very busy on Orkney but then you say there's no need to book campsites in advance!?
