Hi Lenny, we're of to the Isle of Arran this weekend as the forecast is so good. Stayed at Skipness last weekend on our jaunt round Kintyre, and thought we should do Arran next. Anyone been lately and have any good spots they want to share? I have picked out the North Sannox spot next to the bay on Google earth but I wont be suprised if there's a no overnight parking sign there. Anyone know if you can camp there?

Thanks in advance.

Hi wildweekenders, there are dozens of wildcamping spots on the west coastal road right next to the sea. Mind you its 3 years now since I was there, but not a hint of NOP signs, have a good one....Bob

Thanks bob, yeah I've searched the threads and the west coast seems best. There aren't any recent posts on Arran that I can find. Anyway the campers ready to go, just have to tidy up at work in the morning then we're off. Cant wait.

Hi. Arran is our second home (in the camper). We were there a couple of months ago. When you say North Sannox do you mean the picnic area? If so you will only get on next to the toilets and not the field. actually in Sannox about 100 yards after the Sannox Bay hotel is a parking area where you can get right by the Sannox Burn as it empties into the sea. Last time we were there Gypsies had taken it over but they have probably gone by now. There are loads of places to stop. On the east coast our favourites are Lamlash shore road right at the very end overlooking Holy Isle or Sannox Bay. In the north Lochranza beyond the ferry terminal and down the west like you say too many to mention but near the boat house at dougarie lodge is fab and in the south the car park overlooking the beach at Blackwater foot is good. You can fill up with water and empty the black stuff at Corrie Harbour toilets on the east coast just dont ask the guy at the campsite in Lochranza as he will say no Wish I was going now!.

Thanks Barryd, have printed off your reply and will be taking with me.

Good for you Lenny....it is a shame modern life dictates we need to learn to relax....It isnt really a positive reflection on our modern lifestyles.

But I have to share with you, when the sun is shining you have just visited one of the most beautiful places on earth.IMHO

Nothing I enjoy more than wandering and travelling....but crikey dont we have some stunning beauty on our own doorstep ?

I have adopted the Lake District as my official spiritual home !!

Arran

Aye, ye canny whack it. Baldy heid's a bit scorched though!:(

As is mine!:D Spent fantastic weekend on Arran. Weather helped a lot. Decided to set up camp for the night at the "sailors grave" west of the ferry terminal at lochranza. Perfect, no houses and quiet road. Barbie on and a few drinks, great. Later in the evening a local comes along and politely asks if we`re staying the night. yes says I. No problem says he, I just thought I would inform you the local hotel is having a beach party here and There will be a bonfire, generator for amps and decks, loud music and drinking and its all kicking off after 11pm - you're very welcome to come. It lasted till 9am Sunday morning. Very freindly people on the Island and they certainly know how to party. Not our usual scene but adds to the adventure, also a lesson about drinking in your camper as we were`nt able to move to another location as I`d had a glass or 3!

Glad you enjoyed Arran. There is nowhere better when its sunny. Party sounds like good fun although Mrs D would have wanted to be in her bed by then! I actually like it there in the winter as well. We were there in February and its really quiet. Bit parky on the old scooter though!
