hi all got the motorhome hosepipe out today and gave it a good flushing as it has not been used for a few months, just thought i would remind you. BAZ. ;)

Cheers Baz, doing mine next week.

Do you fire some Milton or other agent through it before flushing?

I just flush it...

I just flush it through.... and then use it.... too much sterilization reduces the immune system doing the job. never had problems...

Having seen some of the Bio films etc that live in water pipes and tanks, I use bottles to drink and prep food.
The milton etc leaves the black slime behind but steralises it Yuck!

I didn't know that, that conjures up some wonderful images that I don't think I should be thinking of at this AM :D

Just flushed my clean water and waste tanks via the campers hose. We carry a large thermos flask for drinking water and only drink water from the vehicle tank after it has been boiled for tea/coffee etc. I know it's clean now but note so sure of all the sites where we have filled up.

There has been a lot of talk over the last year or so about the excessive concerns over exposure to dirt in various forms.

One of the theories about the increase in asthma theorises that the lack of exposure to various bacteria, germs and contaminants widely found in daily life increases the sensitivity of the body's immune system.

This renders you more likely rather than less likely to get ill.

Water sources in the UK and most of Europe are inherently safe, and in my view worrying unduly about this makes no sense.

Clearly it makes sense to flush water filling hoses through for a minute or two before use if not used for a while to remove dirt, insects etc.

But beyond that, the chlorine that's present in the water, even in very small amounts, should sort things out very satifactorily.

Water tanks etc should always be drained if the 'van isn't being used for any significant time.

Common sense should prevail in my view :)

I agree, just drink it and stop worrying about bacteria etc etc etc. Never cleaned our tanks, always drink the water straight out of the tap all over Europe, never been ill. Well not from drinking water anyway.

I agree but I just dont like the idea of the muck its like drinking from a dirty cup.
The chlorine will eventually decrease as the water stands, but as has been said keep the tanks fresh and clean your fill hose.
