Hi all I have a elnagh marlin motorhome on a ducato 2.8 diesel chassie . normally if Im hooked up to the mains and try to start the engine the safety feature kicks in and I get a warning light on the dash and the engine wont start However on rescent trip to a site I hooked up and the fuse on the 12v lights on the transformer blew I replaced the fuse and it blew again so I moved to another pitch plugged in and the lights and fuse were fine... but the hookup safety feature has stopped working. the engine can now be started even when Im hookedup and the warning light on the dash stays on all the time .....any help would be appreciated.....sean

I'm just wondering if you hooked up to a reverse polarity socket. It can happen on some foreign sites and even in the UK maybe. Or maybe a voltage spike. Could help in tracing it.

Usually a relay or similar would cut the engine ign feed and its sounds like you may have blown the relay so ign is always on no matter what the status of the hook up. The relays are usually small black boxes about 25mm square with 4 connections. You'll probably also have ones for split charging and 12v fridge so there may be three or four of them grouped together somewhere, either under the bonnet, under the dash, under the seats, or maybe near your charger/control panel with the rest of the wiring.

Check for fuses under the bonnet, somewhere near the engine battery.

There will be one (or possibly two) big ones (about 40 or 50 amp) and there should be one of anywhere between 5 and 10 amp.

If designed properly, the circuit should be protected by fuses.

still searching no luck, so far all fuses I have come across are ok

May also be a PCB with a chip which senses voltages and operates the relay. But as Maingate says that should be protected by a fuse.
