Honda EU20i Generator LPG Conversion?

Considered the idea when I bought mine 18 month ago but decided against it. I just have purpose made airtight bags for the genny and fuel can, no fuel smells to date.
The Honda agent where I bought mine said he would honour the 5 year warranty if I had them do the conversion so that tells me it's reliable etc so I would go for it.

The reason Honda don't make a LPG generator is there is no lube in LPG and there is in petrol (it was lead back in the day) so the cylinder/piston/piston rings/valves wear much faster on LPG and Honda will not honour the warranty. But many people find it works well for a while but your generator will not last as long, compared to a petrol run one. I have seen LPG conversions with a lead additive doser installed but only by men in sheds.

My built-in Dometic generator has a Honda motor in it and has been converted to LPG by a previous owner (it wasn't LPG from the start, because there is a locking flap where the fuel filler used to be) It is brilliant: runs off the 100L bulk tank and is no problem at all.

The kit looks like the sort of thing fitted to mine. If you use the generator, it is easier, more convenient and the exhaust is a lot less horrid. If you hardly ever use the generator, stale petrol will be an issue. I'd say "go for it".

Just use Aspen fuel if stale petrol is the only issue.

Your car was 4 stroke that is OK but 2 stroke is not, in both the valves will suffer.
Either way Honda will not honour the warranty.
By the way I was talking to a Irishman the other day and is Honda 2kva lasted 9 weeks on LPG.Now he feels silly.

As a point of interest I wonder why Ford/bmw/fiat/Honda/and any other car maker doesn't make a LPG engine maybe you know something they don't or it could be that LPG convertions are known for blowing the head off. All internal combustion engine are designed to run of oil not gas. Only tight people convert to LPG.

Well as the OP of this thread I'm looking to convert and don't consider myself tight.

I'm trying to avoid having to carry fuel about with me as I already have a refillable gas system fitted.

We had a LPG 3VA generator that lasted 10 years of pretty heavy usage before it had problems with the valves, The starter motor, solenoid and alternator capacitor all failed before the engine did.
