Hi , I’ve just had notification from Wirral Council Planning that Parking Eye the company that issues parking ‘fines’ for Aldi in Prenton have been operating illegally. Parking Eye have never applied for planning permission for the ANPR? Cameras and/or signage.
Therefore anyone who paid £40 for an overstay should request their money to be returned.
Wirral Council are granting Parking Eye retro planning but no mention of prosecution for illegal operations over the last ten years.
CLAIM YOUR ‘fine’ MONEY BACK NOW

Interestingly, same happened at Aldi In Cleveleys...not sure about getting previous fines reimbursed but worth asking

An Aldi spokesperson said: 'On this occasion, we have been asked by the local authority to apply for planning permission regarding equipment on our site retrospectively.

'This in no way affects the enforceability of any charges issued prior to the application being made.'

I simply avoid using Aldi until they stop using these crooks.

It will be interesting to see if 'Sasquatch' gets his money back - my guess (and Im no lawyer) is no, the lack of planning permission wouldnt (in my ever so humble opinion) invalidate the charge (and it is a charge - which you agreed to pay when you parked - NOT a 'fine').

Suppose the council erected a traffic light and neglected to get planning consent would you be entitled to ignore the traffic signal?

I am actually surprised that a camera actually needs planning consent although the signage if above 0.3 sq meters in area would

What are supermarkets to do? people are using their facilities to park their cars for the day whilst they get the bus into work, any supermarket I have been in gives you one and a half or two hours free in their carpark after which they apply a heft charge - if you cannot do your shopping at an ALDI within two hours you have serious mobility problems!

or it could be a trick to see where he lives as he has not paid the fines for parking in aldi

I agree it’s a business. Having run my own business for 31 years why should a supermarket pay to provide a car park, pay rates, maintain it and then allow non purchasing people to park for free. This then means potential paying customers cannot park and go elsewhere. As long as it’s signed then why do people complain.

On a personal note parking at Morrison’s in Ormskirk is much easier since they introduced the ANPR system and a 2 hour rule.

I've driven around both the local Aldi and Lidl car parks and left because they were full, and I'm sure that all of those people weren't in the shop. The nearest Lidl now has a system where you have to scan your receipt and enter your car registration number into a computer before leaving. The reason is that the free university bus stops outside and students were parking up for the day and using the bus.

Bloody Students !

My morrisons already have the ANPR cameras managed by parkingeye.

They have installed £2 for one hour £4 for 2 hours ticket machines, pay in advance, enter number plate and redeem at the checkout.

I have nothing against a 2hr stay limit that they have currently have but adding the ticket machines is a step too far.

The ticket machines have been covered up for weeks but when they start that I will go elsewhere,

it smacks of giving parkingeye a chance to issue more £85 fines.

Whilst realising that there is a problem protecting parking spaces, the way that Parking Eye do business means that it is probably best not to use businesses using them. Interestingly Parking Eye also win when a company contracting them try to back out of the deal Parking Prankster: How to get a ParkingEye charge notice cancelled if you shopped at Aldi

I see many problems on both sides of the fence regarding parking.

Lidl/Aldi put on 2 hour limits, that seems fair. Who spends more than 2 hours in Lidl or Aldi? The problem is that if you return within a certain time, say to return faulty goods Parking Eye will see this as you exceeding your limit' (I think 2CV had this problem). It needs addressing.

But our local Lidl only has a small car park, and spaces are sometimes hard to get, yet you often see people park their cars there and wander off into town, who knows if they actually shop at Lidl.

On the other hand, at the bigger stores it is quite feasible to spend 2 hours shopping, especially when they have restaurants in store.

At the end of the day, I expect what ever makes the most money will be the main factor!

EDIT: Sorry Bill, didn't see your previous post!

That's ok Rob, I'm used to being ignored 😀

I'm multitasking Bill. Trying to speak to my sister on the 'phone and post at the same time.

And we all know only women can multitask.

ParkingEye has not an honest way of doing business,

the appeals process is run by the private parking companies themselves, so your very likely to get your appeal refused.

You can only apply pressure towards the companies the use PE.

Encourage other motorists to find out who operates the car parks so others know.

:hammer:

Why shouldn't Aldi or anyone else employ a company to enforce their car parking facility, it is their land and they bear the cost of building the car park in the first place, the parking rules are clearly signed and if one chooses to ignore the rules one can expect a penalty as is also clearly signed, so how does that make parking eye crooks? without enforcement of some kind it would be mayhem at the stores and parking would become impossible as some folks would leave vehicles there all day , I'm all right Jack comes to mind.

Have a read through my earlier links to see how they operate, and how they treat businesses who try to leave them. They are now owned by Capita, seemingly reputable.
