Has anyone gone to Holland and found wildcamping easy to do or do you have to pay for expensive campsites?

Netherlands is not easy for wildcamping, it is possible, I have done it a fair few times, but not sure on the legality. Lots of good marinas and farms to stay on for a fair price, I only ever use a campsite when visiting Amsterdam. Gaasper Camping is good if you visit there.

I’ll second ‘gaasper camping’, very easy access to tram into city centre, but tickets from the office and I “think” you can but one that covers all forms of transport just beware of the cyclists, they come in herds.

We’re in Holland at present and have been here for a couple of weeks. Officially wild camping is not allowed but there are the odd place where it seems to be ok - any of the various online apps give details. We have used “camperplaats” which are only for motorhomes/campervans and are generally of a very good standard and most include electricity in the price as well as having sanitary facilities. Prices seem to be pretty standard at 18 to 20 euro/night which I reckon is pretty cheap for what you get.

Don't forget your leveling ramps, lots of hills.

Incidentally the term Holland only applies to a large part of the Netherlands - the provinces of N and S Holland. Referring to all of the Netherlands as Holland, whilst completely understandable and is what we did until we spent time here, is incorrect. It could be likened to referring to Wales, Scotland or N Ireland as “England”!!

My dream job was CEO of the Royal Dutch Mountain Rescue Service; that, or the Swiss Naval Minister; or, failing that, the position of Zimbabwe Justice Minister. I think I could probably have managed all three jobs at once, come to think about it ... :ROFLMAO:

Keep taking them tablets steve ,poor Elaine

To be honest we found it difficult in Holland to wildcamp and even getting on some of the sites too, many of the marina's were booked up. We intended spending 3 /4 weeks there but soon found ourselves not enjoying hunting for places to stay, not spending money travelling to a place only to find it full, phoning around, sending emails so we sadly decided to move on. We prefer not to book way ahead. It is much busier, as is France. But unlike France where you can usually find a place to stay Holland is just not the same.

You could of course apply for a job with the Pidley Mountain Rescue team Steve.

They're based in the Fens of East Anglia.

We haven’t had any problem finding places to stay, and that includes both the long Ascension Day and Whitsun weekends, although things were busy then. We have adjusted our routine a bit though, trying to arrive anywhere by mid afternoon. However there have been only two places which filled up completely after our arrival and those were small camperplaats in really popular tourist places (Giethoorn and Orvelte).
Admittedly France is much easier but the Netherlands is certainly “do-able” without planning.

I thought it was a love letter thread.
