certainly do!!!!! the old beddy suffers in the wind as i put in another post. bedford in there wisdom thought it wold be fun to leave off the anti roll bars when they designed the cf front and rear  so when compass caravans fitted the van body they never bothered to ask why , it realy can make your hair stand on end, not only on the back off you neck :D:D but i am used to it now using it daily

Hi Tony, what winds? Its sunny here and the trees are barely moving! Same as yesterday, apart from the showers that we had, but they weren't big or heavy! :D BTW I'm still not getting mail, did for a couple of hours but it's stopped again. Everything is empty, PM please if you've got a fix!!!  :D :D JIM.

winds

just got back from filey stayed on crows nest camp site for the week end. wind was wild in the early hours of this morning van shook well it was lashing it down as well but work up to a nice day typicle when your coming home. but still we enjoyed the weekend.and thats what its all about,

the wife loves to here the rain hitting the van roof  on a night even when it is parked on the drive, she will still go and sit in the van to listen to it :confused::D:D:D woman is a strange beast

winds and weather

new vans still catch the wind very well. When I was last on Holy Island at the new year, I had to keep moving the van to face the wind, it was that bad. Eventually we moved into the town itself.

ps Mandrake, just looked on the forecast metoffice.gov.uk for Tuesday night, heavy snow in Barnsley. I hope not, I didn't expect to be phoning work so soon saying unable to get in. But, he ho, that will teach me not to buy an MR2! I can here the wife already saying "I told you to buy something sensible"

She's right again, but I'm not going to tell her.

Yes snow for Tuesday and wednesday I'll polish my boots for the walk to work. As for high winds remember you can always stop.
Some years ago when I used to instruct for the advanced driving test the IAM had a poster saying 'Would you rather be dead on time'

heavy snow yippee i love the stuff also it makes my garden look just as good as everyone elses:D well i am on nights all week so if the snow is that bad looks like i may be wild camping in my works car-park :eek:not to worry we have showers and and cheap hot dinners in the canteen :D:D

snow no more

I checked it again today and they have taken the snow forcast off. sorry for raising your hopes. however sheffield council have deposited a load of salt on the road outside my house this afternoon. perhaps they get another forcast to the rest of us!

my vw is awful in the wind - my speed is reduced by at least 20 mph, sometimes more (remember its a an old vw so it doesn't go very quick to start with!), and I have to look for the gaps in hedges where the next van moving blast could come from! Only been blown on to the other side of the road a couple of times - thank god it was empty, though that was in my early learner days... now I just slow right down, and pull in often to let the tail back I cause past. Def thnking of selling it next year and getting a newer not vw camper, with heating, those metal gearsticks are bad this time of year

Snow would be good, though I'm not keen on driving in it!

vw in wind

Aye Topsy

When I was a lot younger about 30 years ago we were driving across Yorkshire in fairly gusty conditions in VW Camper. Heading downhill at about 50mph (wow) a cross wind caught the van and it took two of us fighting the steering about 200-300 yards or so in a real speed wobble.A real learning curve! Fortunately empty road, swerving across both sides and we got away with it.
Looking back at it now the front suspension was knacked. Got a rocket from the old man for not reading the conditions properly. He was an Army Test Driver who used to test the vehicles to destruction. I am a very cautious driver now (Honest Officer):D:D

Just got back from a couple of nights away in the van. Stayed on a CL at Chipping, in the Trough of Bowland. Fortunately we were on hard standing but the grass was waterlogged, which we had to manouvre on. Left huge ruts but couldn't be helped. Drove through serious floods from Cumbria to Lancs (actually delayed leaving home until Sunday because of the weather and were we glad we did!!) Awoke this morning to frost. 6c in the van, 1c outside!

Luckily, there wasn't much wind. I hate being in the van when it's blowing a gale. I lie awake at night waiting to be blown over!!

Would recommend the site at Chipping. In the village, two pubs to choose from, views and excellent walking country. £7 a night with electric.

i got caught out on the a1 last year, a gust of wind blew me into the second lane was a bit worrying but at least there was no one near me at the time. suppose its a price we have to pay for having our vans out in the wind .

Great fun crossing the Skye Bridge on the last two weekends until I remember I have to return over it later in the day!
Waiting area under the "High winds" sign was full of hired motorhomes not wishing to lose their deposit. One waited 8 hours before daring to crawl across.
