Just surfing and found this site by mistake, never knew this was here. I've got a 72 VWT2 Camper and toying with the idea of replacing it with a "proper" motorhome, not now, in about 12 months, i want another year out of this camper before I sell him for what it's worth, & at the moment it's quit allot. I'm not sure what MotorHome to buy yet that's why I'm giving myself time to look, tast, drive etc. before parting with my hard earned cash. Thought some of you, over the next few months, could guide me on the right path. My requirments are very basic but with alterations, we are only 2 so I though a 4 berth would be in the right direction, shower, cooker, loo, bed fuel i'm not sure off, or anything else. I am partly disabled but it don't inhibit me with normal driving/camping but it do on the maintenance side, I can't keep up with the VW's repairing, i'v done my fare share now & as I am now retired I want an easey life. I look forward to reading some reply threads

Hi Robb,
I agree with Cipro regarding a fixed bed and low profile, if it suits your requirements.
Take your time and get the lay out that suits you and try to get a lot of storage space and a decent shower. Oh and lastly but not least, WELCOME to Wildcamping, Enjoy:cool::cool:

Hi Rob, and welcome to wildcamping
only advice on buying a motorhome is
make sure it exactly conforms to your needs
and dont be like me, "See it, Like it, buy it"
thats why my last camper only lasted a year
I now refuse to look at other vans!
enjoy the site

hi and welcome enjoy this site , are you an old dinosaur cos if you are that makes three of us at least:eek::D

Hello Robb, Yes go for a L/profile fixed bed its the absolute dogs b******s you can use the bed for lounging in the day, If one of you wants to rise early you can away to the front with a brew and leave the other lazy sod in bed (usually me) and you dont have that awfull chore of making up the bed , stashing the cushions, moving the goat, putting out the milk bottl.........sorry its an age thing. So anyway welcome to the freindliest collection of old hippies and afair old few younger ones.

Well done Robb must be a top class surfer to get to this site matey hope you enjoy

 Thanks for the warm welcome  It is the layout that I'm not sure about with what the manufacturers do? If i knew who made what I would know what I'm looking for or what to look at. I like the lowprofile style but if it's to long I wont get it around the Cornish roads where I live. I do think I'm going to enjoy chattin to you guys, & I were one of the first Hippis in the UK in 64 :) Ha Trevor! Ya wana try some O da waves in my BK yard man, Awsom

I lived in N Devon from 73to89 but never got into the surfing, but I did have a slitty and used to go to Crackington Haven most weekends in the summer sit and watch you all while i rolled a sp................. spectacularly constructed hand rolled golden virginia ciggarette...........man....

Hi Robb and welcome.

The 64,000 doller question I see. I recon you'll get as many different opinions as you get replys, the real trick will be working out which bits are relevent to you.

If you were looking for a compact(ish) van with a fixed bed might be worth looking at the pics of the Devon Monaco:-

http://www.devonconversions.com/

Click on "Models" then "Renault Monte Carlo & Monaco"

Gives you some idea of what can be done inside 2M width and 6M length so as not to be too unwieldy around those tight Cornish lanes.

P.S. No connection just think it's a good design.

Welcome and enjoy the site Robb,

OK guys, this is good Vibes, where/when is the next MotorHome Exibition? close to me would be good! I think there's only about 4 places to check em out in Cornwall/Devon. Then there is Exeter, Bristol? don't know anywhere else close, only my lady would like to go check out some New/Secondhand Homes to see wat's instore for us. a camper is out as we've got one of those.
