We are Mark & Francesca - new to Motorhomes (we dont even have one!!), new to Wildcamping and new to married life (May20 2006)

.....so a spot of guidance is required from you good fellows out there.

We are getting married soon and have been offerred accom / holidays overseas etc as a wedding presents - but we have also been offerred a Motorhome for a week which we snapped my friends hand off for..................we are so excited about the M/home thing that we are ditching the sun/sea and sand of far off shores and using our honeymoon to try out the potential bug which is M/Homes.

We pick up the MH in Glasgow on 22nd May then where...........???????? Well that's exactly it!! We just dont know where to start,
- should we plan a route or just an approximate direction?
- Wildcamping spots or camp sites?
- how much should we expect to pay for a site if we need to?

I suppose you guys are used to chatting to folks who may have at least a basic level of knowledge - but we need to start somewhere and thought you good fellows would be able to help a couple of "green" M/Homers   :D

hello frankie and mark, congrat.s on your forth coming marriage . what good friends you must haveto be so generous with their gifts.
if your picking a van up from glasgow and only have a week in scotland , i would have a wee plan that can be tweeked on route, depending on weather , knackeredness ect.
i tend to wild camp and at most times of the year there are plenty of quiet spots but occassionally its nice to have a shower and other toilet facilities. formal camp sights will cost about £10 to £15 and you might have to book ahead, so maybe a combination is good.
you can drive to the very north of scotland in about 6 hours from glasgow but you'll never make it 'cause there's too much to see on route, islands ,mountains and many lochs.
so get a map out and enjoy,
irene[i 'm not employed by the scottish tourist board]

Just go north, one of the best camping country’s in the world (if you don’t mind the weather)

Hello and congrats!!!

your getting married and honneymooning in May so you won't need to pre book most sights if you choose to use them - so I'd go with the weather as a planner, and north, which ever way the sun is most likely to be head for there. you'll find you will like some places more than others and maybe want to stay longer or shorter once you get there so just go with the flow.
