My friend has come over for 10 months seen how cheap the solar panels are and bought the kit,he has got as far has fixing it on the van and ask me where to connect the cables to now i cant remember if they go to the starter batter first and then to the leisure battery or the other way round. I put this not remembering down to old age :lol-053::lol-053:

They need to go to a regulator FIRST, then the Leisure batteries, that is how mine are wired any way.

Where

Some more advice will arrive soon...not all controllers do both vehicle and leisure batteries. You might be asked for more details about your "kit" Could I just ask what panels...cost and where from please..Spain ?

He got a 100wt panel and controller for 99 euros the panel comes from Germany He found some place in Altea

The usual method is to connect the controller to the Leisure battery first and then the solar panel to the controller. Then select battery type, if given the option.

In total agreement with above post, correct sequence is as stated because, if you connect the panel/s to the controller first, then the power has no where to go plus the controller needs the battery to power up the processor & initialise the operating system firmware.

Some controllers need to sense what battery voltage is being used before sending power into the batteries.
If you connect the panel first then some controllers go into a kind of shock default mode & will need to be reset!

Well that's how I understand it anyway.

Re; Help please.

Totally agree with Medina, our house in Spain was run on Solar Panels and it must be connected to the battery first. We bought our solar panels from a German guy at Riba Roca near Valencia we still have his phone number. This guy was extremely cheap and good and spoke near perfect english. The last panel we bought off him I would really struggle to put on the MH it was that big. We bought the solar panel and the controller (the better type) I think for about 220 euros. He will work with cash (no IVA). Hope this helps. pj

Up to 200w panel you can do it using this regulator, you have two pos wires out but one is priority so you can decied which batt you want toped up first,i picked the starter as if my donky starts then the engine will take over charging, others may not agree.

Sorry but i never got to see the controller he went back to the place he got it and the boy in the shop showed him what it was for because it was all in German but he is on his way to our land in Portugal when i go there i can find out the name

Does this not depend on what sort of charger your mh is equipped with? On mine I can get a Schaudt solar controller/regulator whatever it is that connects to my Schaudt charger. The main change unit can then distribute between leisure and starter batteries and also isolates whatever needs to be isolated if you start the engine to prevent overcharging.

I haven’t done this so this is all what I have read although I know it is correct for my mh.

There is some good info here
