would love to go to the horse fair in Appleby Cumbria any ideas on over-night parking guys?

there used to be a museum 4/5mls east of appleby on the a66

There is not as much room to stay in Appleby. There have been restrictions put on by the Police and Council. My Brother-in-Law always went for 4 or 5 days with his caravan and parked on 'the hill'. Most of that has been stopped now.

I cannot get hold of him today but I will try to find out more details.

Make sure you have a good alarm system, at least 4 German Shepherd attack dogs and 4 spare wheels. :D

You may have just picked up on the fact that I am not a big fan of many of the travellers. I have time for the old school Romanies but not the chavvy Irish tinkers (and there will be plenty of them at Appleby)

appleby fair camping

i go every year in and camp on afarm right in appleby village, over iron bridge on river, field run by gang of jordies looking after things for elderly farm owner , its a tenner a night its abit rowdy but no trouble as bridge blocked off at night , you ,d be alright in avan conversion not afull blown motorhome, council does not allow them on ,even in a van you have to s
ay your sleeping in a tent.
its a great weekend , when you stop on the field you really get the atmosphere,of the fair, oh and dont forget a big chain , on your jenny ,

My Sister-in-law reckons the Wild Rose campsite about 10 miles from Appleby is a good site. Her and her husband stopped going because of the crime in Appleby. Caravans were broken into and everything nicked. It now costs £60 per week to stay on the hill (if you can get on) so you might as well be on a site with all facilities for the same price as a field with nothing.

Applebey

Try the moor road from Orton to Applebey B6260. There is parking at Orton Scar. You have to travel in, but it would be quieter!!
