Help.... No tv reception

Hi all. Last night whilst watching my meos 12v TV in the camper, the screen went blank and the TV turned itself off, and on to standby mode. It came back on but now shows o% reception.
The status ariel red light is still on, so I presume there's still power to it ( the fuse box is in a awkward place) . The TV works ( just no signal) and the TV is the same on a additional socket and ariel in the van (so its not the socket) . Before I buy another manual ariel today, which I don't think will be successful.
My question to the good folks out there is " do you think that something in the TV has blown/ broken ?" All help much appreciated !

Any problem with the aerial would not turn the TV off. Take the TV out into your house and try it on a known working aerial, but I suspect there is nothing wrong with your aerial.

check the TV settings carefully to see if there is a reset option and also make sure the TV is set to the right 'Input' settings.

Hi torwood,

Unfortunately I'm not near home, so the house ariel is not an option. Tried the auto reprogram option, along with checking that I'm still on DTV on the input setting. I can't find a another reset option in the menu. Still stuck I'm afraid, thanks for your advice.

might be the leisure battery is a bit low, they're a bit sensitive to voltage drop

Thanks n brown, I've got a solar panel fitted, so I'm cooking on gas in this weather :)

I've sussed it !!!

Justed tried my old ariel LEAD and it works but poorish reception ( the reason I changed ariel)

I recently bought a all singing and dancing gold tipped ariel LEAD from maplins. It's got two lumps in the lead containing something or other. I guess this lead and its secret ingredients have failed. I can't think why as it was plodding along nicely and is not damaged in any way.

Will nip to maplins ( is there one near to barrow and morcombe ? ) and buy another. I've not got my receipt in the van, so will have to fork out again. I will however use this new receipt to get a spare one against the faulty one later.... If you get my meaning ;)

Thank for the speedy replies torwood and yourself, kickstarted me into trying again.....TV tonight

Update.......

New ariel, now works perfectly. Maplins couldn't understand it , as its a virtually new ariel, sealed unit, no damage. Oh and by the way, the black round things were "rings" to stop interference.

She did mention that Barrow in Furness seems to suffer from TV related problems. :)

If you're staying near Barrow, have a couple of nights on Walney Island. Head for the Queens's Arms at Biggar, the landlady is called Julie and is very motorhome friendly, tell her Jess from the Full Moon Club sent you for a good meal. You could probably park up on the grass across the road from the pub or ask Julie for directions to the beach next to the old tip (I recently spent a week there at beginning of July in the really hot weather, lovely spot). Drive right along the track adjacent to the beach and park up on the flat grass area at the end, facing the sea but with nose of van pointing North West (strong sea breezes). Sea bass fishing at high tide, cockle collecting at low tide. Look out for Daddy Seal who lurks there and is curious about people and dogs on the beach, and also some youngsters further away.

If you need water, the cemetary is open until 8pm, from Asda, carry on as if you're leaving Barrow then take the first right after Asda, just a side street called Wilkie Street I think but might be wrong, at the roundabout, take 2nd exit, up the hill, cemetary is on the left. Entrance via archway but if you're worried about your height, there is another entrance further up the hill round the corner.

If I had the time and the £££ I'd be back there right now (except for Seaside Fest this weekend of course!).

Maplins is on the same shopping complex as Tesco. Don't forget free Wifi in Tesco car park but park as close to the building as possible for a decent signal. Edit : too late, I see you found it!

Thanks WVW good post lots of info.

I stayed on walney island on Tuesday, quite near to the pub you mentioned on the beach, great place !
Last night on the coast road on a lay bye/ prom in between Rampside and Baycliffe. I called at Birkrigg common this morning, which is a type of moors close by ( fantastic scenery, can hear a pin drop, alas no tv reception) Tonight maybe at Middleton Sands near Heysham ( one of my favourites). Tomorrow maybe knott end on sea, and then onto Lytham St Anne's.
