Hi Just joined and my wife and I have been bitten by the bug, my parents have a 5th wheel and we loved going away with them, so need to know we have roughly about £2000 to spend I know its not much, we are wary of buying someone elses problem, so any help of where to look and what we should be looking for would be a great help.

what is it you want to buy? 5th wheel, motorhome, caravan? etc

is it just for yourself and your wife?

are you handy with a saw, screw driver and hammer?

if you are handy I would suggest the best value for money on you budget can be found in buying a panel van or similar and convert it yourself over time.

The AA frequently sell off vehicles which have glazed side doors and are usually well cared for, that said there are plenty of vans to choose from.

if you have the space it could be worthwhile spending around a grand on a van and then £500 or less on an old caravan to get all the goodies required for conversion and a reasonable kitty left over as a safety net.

good luck in your quest :)

Thnaks 888dee we are looking for a Camper van not at all handy altough my Dad is but semi retired and would feel bad about asking him to help, dont ahve room for self conversion thanks for the reply though

If you are going to convert yourself it will take a LOT of time to do a decent job. Just a heads up on that ;) You can say goodbye to your evenings for 6 months. There's a reason why motorhomes are expensive. Having said that, if you enjoy DIY then it's no barrier really.

You don't necessarily need to buy a donor caravan. I'm buying parts/wood and fitting them as I need them, storing materials in the van itself. It is maybe more time consuming this way though.
