Your right I'm gonna say you should wear a helmet when on your bike, the head always come off worse when it hits the the ground, not sure on the law, but just for safety keep the helmet on.

No need to Polly, you may wear a helmet but it is not a law. btw Holland is cycle paradise - no hills !

Hardly ever see a cycle helmet being worn in Holland. Definatley recommend that you do some cycling there. If there is no wind, cycling is totally effortless on the Dutch cycle tracks and even the bikes are much nicer to ride than ours. Nice and high up with a very comfortable riding position. Enjoy

We always carry them and wear them on long rides... yes I know that's stupid, you can fall or get knocked off just as easily in your own street as you can 10 miles away!!!!

Men definitely need to wear a helmet in Holland.

For one thing, you will look a right dag so all the pretty girls will look directly at you and have a bit of a giggle. The other is you will be so busy looking at the pretty girls, you are heaps more likely to fall off or run into something.

Sorry Polly- I am totally convinced that all Dutch girls riding bikes are very pretty and the boys riding bikes are quite ugly - so for you, the same distractions may not apply and you can avoid messing up your hair with a helmet.

Think it is more necessary to wear a helmet as a pedestrian over there. To cross a road first you have to get over the first cycle path, then straight into the first lane of traffic, obviously comming from the wrong direction. Just when you've made it into the centre of the road and think you have a safe spot to get up the nerve to do the opposite side you realise the centre of the road contains tracks and a bl**dy big tram is heading straight for you.:)

This sounds all too familiar to me ;):D:D:D

Hi Polly
We went to Amsterdam last year and hired a couple of bikes, you don't have to wear them but it makes sense to,if you go to Amsterdam and cycle its mad! beware of the trams they share the roads with you and you cross paths'not sure a helmet will help you with trams though. Their are some wierd rights of way for pedestrians and bikes so be carefull,we got shouted at a few times. when you get of the main roads along the canals its great.
enjoy
cheers:)

Went to our Tesco Direct the one that does not sell food to buy an helmet
Only had 1 adults and it had a size
well I didn't want to try it on because it would hve messed my hair up and there also was no mirror

I'll call again
I am going to buy one though for if/when I ride my bike again

you could always hire one of these easier for when your on you way back from the off licence
