Hi, we are Jayne and Simon and our 19 year old dog Woody. and at Christmas we both thought sod it, let’s take early retirement, sell our house, put everything in storage, buy a VW camper and move to Spain….. and that’s what we are doing. We will be living in our van full time in a couple of weeks, and when our visas come through travelling through France to Spain. What could possibly go wrong !!?

Not much unless the dog has a habit of farting, good luck with your adventure.

I am sure you have sorted all the dog stuff and visas already. Loads of bad advice on some forums ( not here :) ) so be sure to use a trusted site, regarding living in Spain. Sounds like a wonderful adventure, take your time travelling there, so many lovely places to see and great empty roads. Check speed limits for motorhomes in each country....France particularly.... they don't always show the 50k limit entering towns.....don't need speeding tickets.

And from The Algarve.

Sure you'll have fun and adventures.
We took off under the same circumstances, 25 years ago.
Lived full time for 4 years, then bought a ruin to keep us busy throughout the winters.
Vanless now, but settled in semi paradise.
Good luck to you

The French 50km/h limit is pretty much always shown at the entrance to the built-up area: it's the commune name sign. I did come across some (I think that it was in the Landes) that had been covered with black plastic - probably by disgruntled farmers. The farmers' more general practice throughout France has been to invert the signs.

If you are not aware and look for a red circle with 50 in it, it can catch you...:)

I think the very existence of the town name on a sign as you enter a French town is the start of the 50k limit. And of course they hide their speeding cameras in grey boxes low down in the weeds so you can't see them. I don't know about Spain though.
The alternative is to have an old banger like mine. It is called Hardly and one of the things it hardly does is to exceed 60mph.
