Has anyone removed a spotlight / side light without removing the whole console or is it easier to remove everything first making it an easier job?

I have tried gently prising the light unit from the rear to see it the ball on the end of the screw will dislodge from the plastic socket of the metal housing but no go.

Will the ball not pull out if you turn the thread with a socket Sam?
The ball is pretty firmly located in the socket, I had a small pry bar between the light housing and metal plate felt if I forced it much harder it would break. I need to get it out to get the part number which unfortunately is obscured by the plate.

Why the hell do so many manufacturers make things like lights/bulbs so awkward to remove?

Isn’t the metal plate fixed top and bottom to the frame / fibreglass and removing this will allow access to the light unit

I can take the whole console out but the question I was asking can the insert be removed separately. I still have to remove the insert to replace which also involves removing the adjustment screws, it's the front lense which is cracked I had to superglue the piece inplace when on holiday.

I think if you turn the black plastic cups they will pop out. Wee pair o grips if ye can get them in.

The cups on the bottom are splayed all around the hole in the steel plate, I think the inserts on the light unit are winged which would allow them to pop out but still wouldn't get the unit out. Looks as ifvill have to remove the whole cluster first then investigate further.
Another day !

I also tried two packers between the light and metal plate then tighten the adjuster with wd40 on the ball socket thinking it would pull it out but no joy.

When I changed mine, I tried to carefully remove them but couldn't get them out.
Fortunately the new lights came with the plastic inserts so I forced them out and changed them for the new ones supplied.

I think the answer is to remove the console itself unless you can get your hand in to squeeze the grommets to release the unit. This might help ........

I had seen that video 👍, that unit has different fittings and grommets, I intend on removing the console when the weather permits.

For future reference I had to remove the whole console, if you trying to save the adjusters try a piece of tube over the black popets that take the ball of the adjuster or a 9mm ring spanner worked for me, By pushing the ring over the tabs on the front side this squished them in and with a little bit of pressure releasing the plastic inserts.
