My first ever post whilst on the road, from a free WiFi site. If you want absolute silence, big skies, friendly locals, empty white beaches & relatively no hassle wild camping then this is the place !. We all have differing personal tastes but South Uist definitely does it for me; first ever visit but I'll be back (not sure about my Navigating Officer, she misses the shops !).

Now back in Sutherland, also beautiful. Almost 3 weeks with only 1 day & 1 night of rain, pity you Southern Jessies (we must soon depart for S Devon & the floods).

Hi Red Ted. NO midges on Uists/Benbecula/Bernaray/Harris/Lewis up till last week. Just a very few, insufficient to bother, on Loch Shin (sutherland) last night but was very mild & calm. Generally from May onwards can be unpleasant on the mainland.
