we are trying to find health insurance for a 5 month tour of europe we are a couple of 67 and 65 all we have been able to find are companies that do a max of 31 days or 100. Can any one help us on this problem

I dont have a clue of any companies who can assist you buddy. Tho I think you posted this in the wrong area - try general chat :have fun:

I think you will struggle to find 5 Months continuous European travel insurance; we've not found any.

In fact, we don't bother within the EU nor in the Balkans. Whilst in Spain in 2008 (luckily on a campsite so easier for my wife) I was rushed in for an emergency appendectomy & internal gangrene. Spanish hospital fantastic (though I do speak Italian) & didn't cost a penny other than for the ambulance. Also 2 weeks of daily clinic checks & dressing changes - my fault, I split the stitches open - all free on the EU medical card thing.

I'm not recommending not taking out insurance cover, it is probably a personal attitude dependent on your point of view. IF YOU DO find any long term cover please post details on this site - it might be of use to others.

Many thanks for your reply, as you say i have not found any long term cover, we have never bothered before and after what you say i don't think we will now.

Hi

We have been full timing for 3 years now. We found it prohibitively expensive to get medical cover we are 68 and 70. Our motorhome insurance has medical treatment cover if we are involved in a accident abroad. We have not found a need for separate medical insurance as we would either stay put or drive back to the UK if one of us became ill. I had a quote £200 each from a club but when we contacted the company they wanted an extra £700 for me we didn't bother going any further or obtaining a quote for Joan. We have so called inclusive travel insurance from our bank but it only covers if we have a return ticket booked or are on a package deal holiday and no more than 60 days in any one trip. We leave the UK in September and come back when we want or for an MOT. This insurance no longer covers Joan as she is over 70 and its not worth paying the additional premium for no cover. We have current EHIC cards and know from friends experiences that these work.

Meds can be purchased over the counter in Spain if you have the original package with your name on it. Joan got 2 months BP meds in Spain last winter for 3 euro.

Hiya
We use Endsleigh Insurance which is underwritten by AXA. We got 6 months cover last year for all of Europe. Also includes Turkey and Morocco. You can do it online.
As Ivecotrucker says your EHIC card will cover you for emergencies in Europe.
My hubby has some existing health problems though and we feel a bit more confident having the extra cover.

Thanks for the info Julie.

We hope to go beyond the EU again so I will look into Endsleigh.
