Get yourself a BordAtlas. There are dozens of Stellplatze on the Mosel and Rhine, many of them in vineyards :p

Don't know much about places to stay but used to visit there a lot in the seventies and the confluence of the Rhine and Mosel rivers at Koblenz was a pretty amazing sight......and Eiswein is the best of the Mosel wines!

Hello
We go to the Mosel several times a year. It's on route to our daughters house in Bavaria.

Strongly recommend you get yourself a Bord Atlas. Its in German but there is a guide to the symbols in English which makes it easy to use even if you don't speak German. We bought our last one at Frankfurt airport (2011 / 22euros) It lists at least 25 Aires on the Mosel river between Trier and Burgen and there are at least the same number again not listed. I would say they are all very good and very inexpensive. Our particular favourite is Weingut Zellerhof in Mehring right on the river ( 5e a night ) We always come away with several cases of their Riesling (In my opinion the best German wine)This time of year it will be quite busy coming up to the grape harvest.
I think you mentioned you were also going to Heidelberg. A beautiful city but to my knowledge no aires nearby. There are a couple of nice campsites on the river a few kilometres outside the city but they are quite expensive.

Off there again in a couple of weeks.

Hi Champagne is a big region but a few overnight stops I would recommend are: Mutigny - it's an aire a bit off the beaten track but well worth the drive. Lovely views over the valleys of vines, plus a very pleasant waymarked walk with lots of info. Walk starts just above the Marie. Free bins, toilet and waste disposal. 5euro for 300L water & 3 hours EHU.

Also Arrigny Port de Chantecoq - next to a large lake with walks and cycling. Again free bins and waste disposal.

I'll check my travel log for Germany.

Hi you can get Bord Atlas POIs for your sat nav free from "Do Your Dream" site. As well as plenty of others. Enjoy your trip and the wine of course. really nice place to go at this time of the year.

Bord Atlas comes in two parts, Europa and Deutschland, and is available in German newsagents each year for about 25 Euro. I recently spent some time exploring the Black Forest region and found it really helpful for free camping.

Well we made it to the mosel after a few days in Champange for some Bouzy Rouge....My god it is busy here on the mosel.
Found a lovely Stell at Ensch with great views and 16 amp elec for 7 euros...moved to Klusserath for 3 nights only 2 amp elec..nice place but some huge german beasts of motorhomes. Tried to get on to Minheim today but it was full...prob as a wine festival starts tomorrow..but only a few kms on other side is wintrich... 16amp and free wifi (only 8 euros) and owner is really friendly esp when I told him we were Schottlanders!!!!...Ahhh zee Whisky trail..wunderbar!!!

Got to say the beer is great and cheap...but gotta remember not to chuck the empty bottles as you get refunds on them...just bought a crate (20 x 500ml) of wheat bier for 11 euros with a 3 euro refund...what more can you ask for
