My advice is really simple.

Between may and September avoid Skye.
Skye is a stunning island but not in summer months.
Its true beauty is in winter with snow capped hills and wonderful scenery.
You will not have anywhere near as good a time in summer, when the great unwashed take over.
One point though, I don’t necessarily agree that things will somehow be worse this year. And my reason for this will be the lack of EU visitors who normally make up about a third of visitors to Skye in summer. Take my advice, visit Skye when it’s at its best, and that is not in summer.

Makes one wonder if we will be welcome anyway or will we get a hostile reception from Local Isle Of Skye People ESPECIALLY if anyone tries to wild camp there just a thought!

Micky if you go in winter Skye is full of places to wild camp discreetly. And when talking to locals they tell us why it’s become hell in summer. We were there February 2018 and wild camped for a week with no problems. Our only problem was emptying our cassette and getting water. But both issues were taken care of by a fellow motorhome owner in Portree. We had parked in a local carpark and were heading out to the local supermarket, when we got chatting. That’s the only problem in winter, no campsites, and as far as I know no facilities. But I hear that this may change soon with two or three chemical waste points being installed throughout the island possibly next year. They really have to do this, and charge for their use if need be. I don’t know what we would have done without that guy helping us out. Attitudes are far more relaxed outside of the summer months.
