Have I commited a sin?

I had the chance to get hold of a couple of ton of building stone, but do not have a suitable trailer or vehicle.
I collected the first batch of stone in my motorhome last night and going back for some more tonight.
I still do not know exactly what my moho garage will take weight wise, but know it was designed to take a motorbike.
I think I may have had a couple of hundred kilo in my first collection, as a bit of a trial and I could hardly feel it when driving back home, a distance of about 15 miles.

Tonight its going to get a bit more.
I have lined the garage with my plastic bread crate "mats" which helps to stop the stone, of irregular shapes, rolling about, and may place some of the bigger pieces in the hab area.

Total cost so far? £87 to fill the diesel tank :)

I hope thats £87 for a tank full rather than the 15 miles there and back or you are going to be better paying someone to cart it :)

Couple of dumpy bags delivered wouldn,t cost a lot and what I,d think about saves a lot of hassel

You should have gone and purchased a whole salmon from the supermarket and asked someone to whack you around the head with it as what you are doing is probably more stupid :baby:
That's 2 loads in a van or pick up that is going to take you 10 trips ?
£45 for the day the last van we hired :lol-049::have fun:

You are really cheerful (not) Cheerful Charlie, slightly abusive even.
2 loads is all I am doing, and will cost less than £45, and nobody said anything about 10 trips, but if that is what you want to think/make up, go ahead. :)

I feel sorry for the 2 poor axles at the rear

I think the two axles will take it, I checked under the garage and the main chassis continues all the way to the rear in the same thickness.
The suspension hardly moved with my first load, and I have found that when fully loaded for holiday with on board water and garage full of kit, it drives quieter (less rattles) and smoother.

I had 200 flag stones to get ,but as trailer could only carry about 15 to be under legal weight i got them delivered to door for £10 which saved me many trips.

Nae problem there and it sounds like you’re stones somthing bespoke then yes use what’s at hand to move or get it home there all just glorified builders vans anyway make it work for its keep.

2 tons or 2 tonne ?2 tonne is 2000 kilograms , you stated that you carried about 200 kilos in the load so divide 2000kg by 200kg and you will arrive at 10, which by your reckoning will mean 10 trips ? Fair assumption by Charlie?

I was informed there was about 2 ton going free, if I had the vehicle, I would have taken the lot, but because I only have the motorhome, I will not be doing 10 trips, in fact looking at the pile available, there is not ten loads there (if each load was 200KG).
My assumption was 200kg (maybe less or more) in my first move, I mentioned that I will be taking more on my next trip, perhaps double, although I do not know the exact weight, I tend to go by the suspension level, which with my first load, did not seem to make any difference.
I have tried to explain all the ins and outs of my original post now, but I think sometimes, people read between the lines of posts to find fault, and then comment with abuse, clearly this is not necessary.

I often make ours work for its living. That's why I like double rear doors and able to take full sheets and lengths of wood and pipes easily.

I would think that an old hearse would be perfick for sheet material, anything that is stiff as a board is a proper job,

I understand perfectly, I would have done the same, your labour costs nothing and if you have the time ,do it.

Before the motorhome I had a VW Caravelle, a superb versatile van that had removable seating allowing for various set ups of sleeping and bike carrying capabilities.

My wife rang me one day to ask if I could go pick her up as she had run out of fuel on the motorbike (Bandit 600) on the motorway.
I whipped the seats out of the Caravelle drove down the motorway and found her sat in a police car chatting to the local constabulary.
As it was raining I suggested she stay there and I would get the bike into the back of the van.
As anyone with a bike like the Bandit would know, if you lean the bike over, it is possible to get a bit of fuel into the carbs and start the engine.
After placing the wooden plank onto the back of the van, I was able to ride the bike into the back of the van, much to the amusement of the policeman. :)

I would have another T4 for sure, probably would have had all the stone at home by now. :)

Your suspension level will hardly move ... then it will go 'BANG' as a Torsion Bar snaps. Or that might happen if you hit a pothole. That will be a very expensive repair job, especially if you hit a pothole and damage both axles. AlKo axles are different to normal axles with Cart Springs.

As Dirty Harry said ... do you feel lucky?

I took most of the stone available in three trips, with no dramas, I could hardly tell the stone was in the back, the van always runs smoother with weight on anyway.
I took a photo of the second load, one showing suspension with load and one without, and the final photo after I had cleaned out the garage after the move.

I had a maxus crewcab as a work van so the load space was right at the rear. I needed a ton of gravel so to be safe I asked to have the gravel split between two bags and do it in two trips. Went into the yard and the guy on the forks said" Oh you want half a bag mate, dont worry ive filled it right up for you." Steering was " interesting" on the way home

Without reading all the post, so somebody else may have beaten me to this.

Yes you have committed a sin. Using you pride and joy as a pickup.:camper:
