Hi all,

After a terrible 16 months, I am now looking forward to getting back on the road and planning to go away for most of the Summer in my van. I am concerned to see the changes afoot in some counties with regards to Wild Camping.

I just wanted to ask if anyone has fallen foul of this new and despicable change / legislation that seems to be coming in/ has come in? in some areas?

Also, if someone could give me a quick run down of the counties that are implementing such changes, that would be great.

I have signed all the online petitions I could find protesting against these changes.

All the best,
Melissa

Arrive late Leave early. Leave no trace.
To be fair I've even felt uncomfortable in Scotland this year. Sadly times seem to be changing ☹️

I always do that anyway :) I am incensed by these changes, but await to see how harshly they implement them.

I sometimes rock up in the afternoon - I tend to choose locations with walking areas - So i go for a walk and then wait for everyone to leave before bedding down. :) The Sun streaming in through my windows tends to get me up early this time of year, then by 9am, I am usually gone to my next place of interest to me. I very very rarely stay more than night in a location. I WC to experience that real peace and those night skies :)

Some counties are getting more relaxed about MH's but prefer to implement Aires type camping where there is a cost involved. Who would have thought Whitby would have come to the realisation that MHers are beneficial to the local economy. Whitby were dyed in the wool very anti until recently.
On our month long travels, mostly in Scotland, we have come across four POI, that no longer exist.
Scotland still feels the safest place for Wilding, particularly away from Urban areas.
If you are feeling nervous about Wilding, having got out of the habit of it due to lockdown, I would think about one of the Aires or Scotland. You will soon get into the groove again.
There are some women only groups, maybe give them a try too?

Hi Izwozral - where are these women only groups? Scotland is where i will be going :)

Thanks
Melissa

I feel your pain. Sadly times are changing, for the moment down to the dreaded COVID and subsequent staycations. Hundreds of people buying tents and motorhomes etc just to get away. I live In Cornwall & to be fair many of these beautiful rural areas in the UK are being ruined by a small minority of wild campers. Last year campers were using people’s gardens as lavatories, along with side streets in towns and villages. Wild camping is actually illegal in England unless you have the landowners permission, but has always pretty much unenforced by police, as long as you are not creating a nuisance, hazard or leaving garbage etc behind. We regularly used to camp on the north cliffs but just for one night and we left no trace, this isn’t happening now, people are rocking up, staying for a week and leaving their mess behind, let’s hope once normality returns and people can go abroad again those who wild camp responsibly will be able to do so once again.
