I'm going change my 250gb hard drive on my Acer mini pc, for a 1TB hard drive, are these just plug and play?.

We brought a Toshiba 1tb external hard drive the other week and they just plug in and go not sure about inboard ones though.:yeahthat:

How old is the PC?

I expect it uses a SATA interface, and if so you should be OK. Just make sure it's the same 'form factor' i.e. the same size.

Bear in mind that unless you have access to software such as PC Mover (by Laplink) you will have to reinstall everything on the new drive, in addition to copying your data across.

It might be easier, if you're short of space, to add an external USB drive ...

I forgot about adding Vista to the new hard drive, not bothered about all the other stuff i have that back up on my click free, I can't find the Vista cd for my Acer, i've got one for my Dell laptop.
The pc was built in 2007, the computer shop has 2TB sata hard drives for £99.99 but only one per customer, i might go for that,

I would be careful with 1TB+ sized 2.5 Sata drives as normally the drives are 9.5mm in height however most of the 1TB drives are 13mm.
This means they wont fit the bays of most laptops.

Samsung do a 9.5mm 1TB drive; HN-M101MBB which you should be able to get delivered for about £85.

If it's a mini pc, can't you just add an additional drive as slave to get 1.25 TB total??

This is what im using at the minute, Clickfree there nothing on my PC i need to save, programmes i can reinstall as and when, my hard drive is full, its only 600mb space left. i cleaned 18gb on the morning and by the tea time it was back up, some thing fishy. i think i will take it to the shop and get them to install the new hard drive, i was looking at that samsung that Phil said until i saw the 2TB,
