Hadrians Wall Walk.

Hi All,

I would like to do the Hadrians wall walk ( All of it.) this summer, Has anyone else done this?
Most folks do it without a motorhome, staying at various places along the way. I'd like to do using our van, & campsites..Now I need the logistics of doing the walk, otherwise i'll end up doing it twice..any site recomendations nearby would be appreciated as well!

Cheers, Dogseal.

Hi dogseal,

What you could do is use the bus service that follows the wall.

Wait, wait, let me explain.

You work out a days walk and park your van. Go back on the bus and start walking till you reach the van. Move on another days walk and get the bus back then start walking again.

Or, you could do it in reverse. Walk till you are fed up then get the bus back to the van and then move the van.

Simples, now start googling stopovers and bus timetables.:)

Or take the better half with you and get her to drop you off and drive to the next campsite, you get a peacful walk and she gets to cook your tea whilst reading a book. Everyone is happy.

Guess I'll go now :D

John and his son are doing Hadrians Wall Walk this year (his son-13 years old may never talk to him again?) anyway I bought them a great guide book to this walk.
Talking to friend who has already done it, the one rpoblem with using campsites is, most are a few miles away from the wall, so at the end of the day you have to walk to a campsite.
John has looked into the bus, as backup as they plan to walk and use B&B's.

I may pick them up at the end in Hymie?

Please repair any breaks in the wall that you find.

A southerner.

Maybe other members would like to join you on the Trek?
Something we would consider, having thought of doing the walk for some time.

Happy Camping:)

Hadrians Wall Walk

Hi Dogseal
Hadrians Wall Walk Fantastic Idea, I would deffo be interested in doing that this year, if we can get just a few people interested we could get a system going of ferrying walkers and moving vans, I did the Coast to Coast last year, amazing experience but had to use B n Bs and boy does it get expensive, :)

Nice one, cook my tea? HAAAAAAAA ! I still wanna live!

In my earlier post, I mentioned using the bus service.

i should have added that this service is set up for people like yourselves to follow the route of the wall. They are 16 seaters (or thereabouts). If you were expecting a double decker then you might be disappointed.

Anyway, which end will you be starting from. Us locals on the East side can be very helpful for wilding etc.

East to West, Then drive down the west coast.

Right, now we are cooking.

My recommendation would be to drive to Segedunum Fort in Wallsend. This is where the shipyards used to be in the middle of the Toon, so not much wall there now. The Fort is well worth the visit.

There are small outcrops of wall as you leave the city on the West Road. If I was you, I would google earth the wall to decide where you want to start walking and then we will have an idea where you want to walk to. Then you can ask for wilding places.

How`s that.
