Hi Folks,
Last month some unspeakable & unknown scum put their fist through one of my habitation windows in a car park whilst we were walking close by. My broker & insurance company referred me directly to Auto Glass where a call centre rep., who was obviously having a bad day took the details & booked an appointment for my 2011 coach built. When the day arrived I had a call at 8:00 am to say that the “glass” had arrived damaged, but insisted they would find a replacement within a week. I was very concerned as I have a friend of 40 years standing & who lives in France. He had just suffered a serious stroke & I was anxious to visit him, so time was of the essence. After a week and a phone call each day it became clear that Auto Glass had no clue about habitation windows. I decided to try to find one for myself. I was fortunate to find a company called Auto Glaze & gave them the specifications, they called me back within two days to state that they have located two original habitation windows to suit! One was delivered to them within two days & I drove down to Bournemouth to have it fitted, perfect job. Although Auto Glass may be good at supplying & fitting conventional windscreens, however when it comes to more specialised requirements they flounder around.
I had a look around Auto Glaze whilst I was there & noted some panoramic windscreens for A class motorhomes plus a fair number of normal motorhome windscreens. They locate habitation windows as required. My experience was that they are very capable of sourcing & fitting, being specialists. They also fit the replacement windows in the whole of the UK & Europe. Needless to say I have no relationship with Auto Glaze, except being a very satisfied customer. However a couple of lessons learnt, (1) check your insurance cover for both windscreens & habitation windows. (2) that you have sufficient cover, my 1.5 meter habitation window cost over a £1,000! (3) don’t automatically follow your brokers recommendation when they point you to Auto Glass but insist on an alternative specialist supplier like Auto Glaze. My insurance company accepted Auto Glaze as an alternative supplier & paid out to the limit of my “ glass” cover. They were encouraged to do so when I stated that the motorhome in it’s present state was insecure!
