habitation door lock problem

Hi

Can anyone help? I have a 2008 Dethleffs Globebus and we have managed to snap the habitation door key in the lock. I am told the handles are in common with Hymer Lo-profiles etc. Is there a way to get at the lock and remove the broken bit of key? The lock fits all the locker doors etc so hopeful of not needing a new lock. Any thoughts gratefully received!

hi not sure on your lock setup but am sure you will be able to remove your handle and lock assembly from the inside of the door and then remove the lock barrel and then should be easy to poke out the broken piece of the key,
should be an easy job.

I stripped out the lock mechanism on my Burstner (German van) habitation door, just to get it lubricated and working properly. It is not that difficult. If your lock is the same as used on Hymers, then contact Brownhills. they are the UK Hymer agents. It will not be cheap for a new lock. If you quote the key number, you will get the same barrel to match the other barrels.

Before you do that, do a google for cheaper options.

I got bored of having a different and fragile looking key and fitted a central locking solenoid into the door. £9 in Maplin. Smug factor - priceless :D

I would say this as this is what I do but call a locksmith. I remove broken keys with various extractors all the time and as long as I don't have to travel far I charge a £10, must admit not all Locksmiths are as low priced as me but ask first.
