MOT for the old '98 Transit Duetto today. Confident that all mechanically sound but have no tools to test emmissions.

FAILED by 0.001 outside limits for Lambda max 1.030. Cure squirt of carb cleaner on the MAF sensor wires. reading now 1.001.

COST: Half hour main dealer labour £37.50 plus VAT.

Unfortunately I'd forgotten to remember this 'cure' that was often needed on old Scorpio's.

That'll learn me! Still not bad for a 12 year old Tranny.

Redex in your fuel half an hour before you go to test, Just make sure the engine is nice and warm before you take it in.This was told to me by a the test guy two years ago and its alaways worked for me. I do it with the wifes car which is 15 yrs old and Big bertha which is 18 years old.

Yes i remember that trick,although i never needed it as my mot guy is someone i get on quite well with.Saved me a few quid too.

Always give it a good fast run before taking it in for MOT. Luckily, I live near the motorway. Saved me a fortune over the years. Good old A1.

Try "Cataclean" next time, absolutely brill stuff, about £16 ish, but worth every penny. I use it in the MH and Car, at least once/yr.
My bros car emmissions reduced by 56%, so I use it all the time now.
