Green or Blue for Hebrides Loo

Is it correct, as I have recently been told, that you can only use green (bio-type) WC cassette fluid if emptying into an Outer Hebrides CDP ?. Can Guernsey Donkey advise please. Thanks in advance.

I can confirm this is correct, they dont like you using the blue one at all, but GD might know something different better to use.

Poo!

I detect a small problem here (at least) one of the most environmentally friendly toilet fluids is actually available in BLUE! (Walex Toilet Chemical sachets)< so even though it is blue it is in fact "green".

I have been searching for a post made (I think) on this forum, where someone did a back to back test. Both fluids worked, but the Aqua-chem "green" fluid smelt awful very quickly. Sadly I cannot find it now. We are now in need of new supplies (I wasn't when I read it) and I cannot now remember the name of the one that gave a pleasant aroma.

Anyone know the post I mean?

green fluid refers to the environmentaly friendly fluid wether it be blue, green or any colour...what is important that it is formaldehyde free and biodegradable. I have used both elsan organic and one-chem..both are blue in colour but carry the correct credentials.

Of course that is the case, as I hope I implied in my post. My question related to coming across a "jobsworth" who acts on the colour rather than the properties if the fluid.

Which of the two you tried did you prefer and - why?

Cheers.

having woprked in the sewage industry i would advise not using any of the addatives . . never empty the cassette fully never wash the insides out .let it start to build bacteria . after a while it will function ideally and not need any of the additives .

Either of the fluids works well I am using one-chem at the moment but no real preference except that the one-chem bottle is smaller to carry and you use less fluid.
I was not challenged and if I had been I would have shown the bottle to show the credentials

What may be true for an engineered sewage plant or properly functioning septic system just doesn't transfer to a cassette that is emptied every day or two - because the holding period is so short and the conditions under which the contents are being held (neither aerobic nor anaerobic) are not conducive for bacterial action. All you will end up with is a putrid mess that only gets worse with time and temperature.

Who says you have to empty it every day or two? Keep the fluid waste mainly separate and it will last one to two weeks if you don't overuse it. I'm assuming a large capacity model. I use the Thetford 165 which has a 21 litre capacity

I have tried Alan's solution and it totally works. Not only do you not have to lash out cash continually buying chemicals, but also it is better for the environment when emptying whichever way you look at it. Spray air freshener when opening the blade, but I guess if one is really sensitive about smells one could fit an SOG system.

We have a SOG system on ours, and it really does deal with the smells, although I sometimes wonder what passers-by make of it if it is operating when they pass??:scared: Hopefully, they blame each other!! We don't use anything in it except water, but do give it a good rinsing when we get the chance. I must say that it does pong something chronic when you empty it, and if I am emptying it in a public loo I always take an air freshner with me to sweeten the scene!!
