Having spent the weekend at Brands Hatch in constant pouring rain I dropped the van into RoadPro yesterday for solar upgrade and Lithium (can’t wait) looking at the roof it had turned completely green with mould/ mildew, never seen it so green before.

What’s the best thing to get it off and keep it off?

I used Cif on mine Kev I expect that this is not a good idea but it cleaned it up a treat and doesn't seem to have damaged it.

However, I'm not going to risk it again and it needs doing, so I'm going to try this;

If nothing else, it should smell nice!

Path cleaner, were you near trees.
Yes Trev I was parked right next to a Vodafone mast and a wood, weather was warm but exceptionally wet (understatement tbh) I normally just use traffic film remover, but it’s like a bloody lawn.

A more sensible suggestion would be something like this;

Try this!

I swear by the brilliant Bilt Hamber (a brilliant, very proud, British company) Surfex HD which I buy in 5ltr bottles and use it at various strengths to clean anything from electric induction hobs, cleaning alloy wheels, the dreaded black streaks on motorhome sides and of course the blessed green mould, I even use it to clean all the muck off the engine of my classic car..................... It's brilliant stuff https://bilthamber.com/product/surfex-hd/ as are most of their other brilliant products.

The best thing that I've found is the stuff designed for keeping the patio free of moss. I use Spray and Leave, but there are probably other brands.
Spray the stuff on, leave it to kill off the algae, then rinse. When the roof is dry and no rain is forecast, spray it again and leave it. I find it lasts for months

There was talk of a product called wet and forget a few years back I use it for moss on house roofs so I tried it on the van and it worked a treat but earlier this year I noticed the film on my stick on solar panels delaminating now I’m not sure if it was this wet and forget but I won’t be using anything other than soap and water in future

A decent quality TFR. Make a strong dilution spray it on give it a rub in with a soft brush then power wash off. Then you need to polish it and wash it regular.

I buy something similar from ebay, it's excellent and may be similar but a bit cheaper? My mhome was green all over and it now looks like new after a few washes with this on the roof and sides. It seems as if regrowth of the green stuff is inhibited after a few thorough uses - I use it with a toothbrush to get in all the tricky bits to try to make sure it is all removed in the first place:

I accidentally found a better method than any mentioned here 😀

I got home from Brands and on Monday emailed RoadPro for a quote for more solar/lithium they quoted me Monday morning (I had actually spoken to them last week) Monday lunch time they called me and explained they had a cancelation so having debated and checked with Trev (thanks mate) it went in yesterday, collected today and they’ve cleaned it and covered it in solar panels, job done except a few patches.
