Hi All
Well after 5 days frantic drive we have finally arrived in Igoumenitsa.
Quite a relief to escape Italy and the manic drivers. Do speed limits even exist in the Italian driver’s mind?
Decided on Brindisi as the ferry was much cheaper and we wanted to see a little more of Italy. 192€ single if you input SENIOR into promo code.
Mind you, as we opened up the phones a little too early when Corfu was sighted, we lost 100€ by attaching to Albania 4G for seconds before realising our mistake!
16€ per mo!!! What a rip off. Beware!
On our return, we think that we shall do Ancona or maybe drive the Albanian/Croatian coast.
Anyway it’s lovely to be here and now to find some deserted beach on which to idle away a few weeks.
Happy camping.

Hi again. Thanks for the link.
Back at our favourite beach where we spent 3 weeks 6 years ago. Nothing has changed. 30 kms north of Preveza which we also like for shopping, eating out etc.
What is Greece like in January??

If you choose to go back via Ancona I would avoid Rimini and surrounding area unless you are a fan of midnight drum and base music. San Marino nice though with good parking options.

We are heading to greece as janet is writing a book about a mime teacher who took a group of 45 girls to perform in the acropolis in 1930, january seemed a good time to go as alot of european motorhomers head that way for winter

If you plan Meteora heres a good stop over
Meteora GPS: (39.70859, 21.65441) - Parking at Pension Arsenis catering for motorhomes, very friendly. Great access from here to the monasteries.

Hi again.
We have been travelling down the east coast as the weather on the west was deteriorating.
Started down from Volos and found some lovely places with old style tavernas with proper Greek food.
Now staying at Akrotirio which is the first sandy beach we have found. Lovely pms e to wild camp, showers on beach and tavernas not too far away. Highly recommended.

Looks great. Used to holiday on Greek islands decades ago . Last couple of times they had heatwaves ! Stopped going .
Couple of questions (may be more)
What kind of temperatures this time of year ?
What restrictions on dogs (bars , public transport etc) ?

Hi
Temperatures the last week 30-33. Forecast for the next fortnight 28-31. Some risk of occasional thunderstorms.
When we were here last inn2018 for 2 months m, it was extremely pleasant right up to when we left on 31st October.
Not particularly being dog lovers we don’t really concern ourselves with these matters but don’t think there would be a problem IF the dog was well behaved.
The problem is of course, as with parents and children, dogs can do nothing wrong in some people’s eyes!!!

Thats a question we thought about @iampatman has spent winter in Greece heres a pic from one of his old posts
Hi,
We didn’t really spend winters in Greece, we would usually spend the winter in Spain and set off around March and take a ferry from Italy and then set off back to UK in June. We visited Greece five or six times in the motorhome and one year we drove all the way overland via Belgium, Germany, Austria Slovenia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria, a great trip. Map attached showing the places we stopped in Greece. Travelling outside the holiday season was great, we would find a little harbour or a taverna and ask if we could park overnight. The response was always the same, “Of course, this is Greece and you are welcome!”. We were never refused. A wonderful country to travel around.

As you say, the Greeks are so welcoming. It is such a distance to come but so worth it when you arrive.
Fortunately now being French resident we are not so Schengen restricted as Brits are nowadays!
We would not travel all the way down to Brindisi again though. Although considerably cheaper ferry wise, we don’t feel it worth the hassle of the Italian drivers and the chance of damage to the van.
Much better to drive the Croatian coast or catch the Ancona ferry.

We've used the Venice to Igomitsa / Patras ferry camping on board reaching it via Mont Cenis plenty of wild camping here

I think only Superfast do the run from Patras now and only seem to take up to 6m vans.
We did Minoan Lines from Patras to Venice last time in 2018.

Very true . Most countries have rules about dogs on public transport etc . Which can be restrictive for us dog owners .
Familiar with France , Spain just no information about Greece .
Any way back to your travels , please keep us all informed . Did always enjoy Greek hospitality
