GPS for motorhomes

For the latter two, I use Organic Maps; with a bit of luck, it will have a POI for the park-up that I used, so easy to know where I need to get back to. :)
Same here you set the point where you are so it will voice control you back to the spot, i turned the voice off on mine as the wife does the same and knows everything. 😂

TomTom, Garrmin, Google etc just enhance to pleasure of exploring and enjoying the journey................Not

If I ever need find myself needing these toys I'll wind the van up to top speed click on criuse and open the door and step out

Might be worth giving CoPilot another go. FWIW, the interface went horrible on my phone for a few weeks during which it was almost unusable -- but it's old usability has now returned. In the meantime, I'd given both Waze and Magic Earth a go and both had a nasty habit of sending me down unsuitable roads and convoluted routes where the main roads were quicker and sometimes even shorter than the GPS route. However, CoPilot now seems stuck in a never ending map update cycle and asks to update its maps each time I use it and wifi is available. I suspect those updates have not been successful judging by it not recognising the dualling of the A30 in Cornwall completed last year (AIUI).

For precise navigation it would be good if all apps worked with What3Words.
Beware of W3W -- there have been several instances where people have confused similarly spelled words (e.g. homonyms or singular/plural forms). Usually, the two locations this produces are far enough apart to avoid a confusion (e.g. the location is in a different country to that expected), but some are not. In any case, W3W doesn't give you any clues whereas WGS84 coordinates give rough area info that refines as the number of decimal places is increased.

I have had the same issue with CoPilot updates on the moho Android head unit and was wondering whether it was because I have a larger set of maps downloaded to that than to CoPilot on my phone; on the head unit, it was downloading far less data than I would have expected. I didn't try further updates while touring France in case I ended up with no maps at all, but intend to experiment further and report the issue to CoPilot support if necessary.

As for W3W, it uses different words for the same place depending on language, so could be quite complex trying to use it in other nav apps.

Best one I have found so far is Magic Earth having followed the thread mentioned earlier. Google Maps though I find is more up to date if there is a diversion or incident you need to get around but Magic Earth so far has proved better for offline use despite Google Maps having the facility to download the maps.

To be honest I still prefer my old TomTom dedicated device from 15 years ago but its so far out of date now and I've not heard much good stuff about the new ones.

I managed to add all the Camping Car Infos Aires to Magic Earth so POI are possible.

Used Magic Earth for a while, but inevitably found myself defaulting back to Waze, might have a Mickey Mouse display but by far the best at navigating.

Anyway, new start, phone was snatched on Sunday, the only navigation app I'll be bunging on me new phone for now is Waze, although apple maps has come along way.
I do still use a stand alone Dumb Tom too.

Still got loads of navigation apps on tablet, but pretty much only use google maps on that. So can still have 3 sat nav going at once. :ROFLMAO: Toss a coin to choose which one I'll take notice off.

Having used several GPS apps for both cars and motorhomes I am struggling to find one that works well with an easy to follow software.
Google Maps is OK but is no good when offline. Copilot used to be good many years ago, then failed to have a proper track up option, now has track up but has lost easy to use software making route changes on the move almost impossible. Sygic is slow to update and has other issues. Waze is very basic lacking the features described below.
Being able to store routes, enter waypoints in decimal degrees, using POIs, route preference settings are all important choices.
A good car app which has settings for avoiding minor roads might be better than a dedicated motorhome app which usually costs more.
I would be interested to know what others have ended up with.
You can go off line with Google maps .Jiust go onto Google maps click on your initial name top right scroll down to off line maps . You can up date your maps every year .

I love Waze, used it on the bike all the time rather than buying an expensive waterproof motorcycle GPS. Always gets me where I want to go.
