Goyt Valley height barriers?

We popped into one of the carparks at Goyt Valley for an overnight on Tues. Just two other vans there. In the morning a chappie in a United Utilities 4wd turns up and takes a couple of pictures. He told me that the place had been chock full with motorhomes over the bank holiday. He blamed Facebook sites etc with making the places too well known. Although in the past campervans had been tolerated the increasing number meant height barriers were being considered. One to keep an eye on perhaps.

Mr B.

I don't know ... what is the world coming to? camping folk using car parks overnight!

Don't they know after dark, carparks are reserved for Dogging and/or Saxoboys doing burnouts :rolleyes2:

I think the problem was people staying all weekend and emptying toilets etc.

Motorhomers do that all over Europe on Aires/Stellplatz/Aostas, most of which are 'Car Parks'.

Why does the UK think that behaviour is unacceptable?

If there are not enough spaces for all then make more; they allow Tesco and Sainsbury's to make enormous ones.

Are you referring to the parking bit, or the emptying of toilets (presumably on the ground?) part, as seen as unacceptable in the UK? (not keen on people doing the latter I have to admit)

There aren’t any toilets in Goyt Valley except far end at Derbyshire Bridge where info point is are there? If they were emptying toilets they must have been doing it in areas kids play in, or is it somewhere else. Not been down there this year yet

Emptying of toilets was not in Mr. B's OP, only in his 'I think....' post later, and in your 'presumably' post.

So there is no evidence of that.

Yes, I was referring to overnight staying on Car Parks, even ones that are not Aires, is acceptable on the Continent, with only a few rare exceptions.

The emptying of toilets was in his post directly before YOUR Reply and your reply DIRECTLY QUOTED the OPs follow up message - including the toilet emptying part as well - when you wondered why motorhomers "doing it all over Europe" was unacceptable in the UK. Hence my confusion.

Thank you for clearing up just what you thought should be acceptable in the UK

The carpark we used was the first one at cr Wildmoor. It's next to a small reservoir that's used for drinking water supply. The United Utilities blokes concern was of contamination of water supply generally by indiscriminate emptying of toilets. I didn't see any evidence of that but we all know it goes on.

We called time on Wild Camping meets when someone told us you had to get INVENTIVE with the toilet waste at Stonehenge. What an earth they meant we don’t know but I can imagine.

Gout Valley is really nice but now everyone and his dog knows about it we will find somewhere else.

It’s only going to get worse as the number of places to overnight is reduced by height barriers and the dreaded Council NO MOTOR HOME Signs and the number of MH’s increases.

Its even happening in Spain. We cycled into the local town today. The car parks on the sea front have NO MOTORHOME signs on them.

If you have a favourite place then perhaps don’t put it on Social Media or it will just get overrun.

..

I was thinking of visiting here this sat and staying overnight. Just me and the dog. The wife is off for a week in the sun.
Any thoughts or alternatives?
