In about 10 goes this was the first time I got refused.

I usually fill the bottle inside the back doors of the van but had the bad luck some chap from the filling station walking around in a high viz emptying the bins saw what I was doing and said it was only allowed with fixed tanks. I did point out that the tank was "fixed" (with a strap), and he did agree it was safe but still against their license. So, no LPG for me. I just went 20 miles down the road and filled at another service station!

I may well put my spare bottle inside a wooden housing so nobody can see one way or the other and then my refill system would be bullet proof. Even better would be a flap on the body like an EHU point so I can fill without even opening the doors. Then it just looks like a normal LPG tank fill.

I assume that this was in the UK............

If so was it a private filling station, a known chain or a supermarket? Might be useful for reference.

shell dont like refillable bottles and adapters, think they have signs up. actually think most autogas outlets have the signs. if seen most will stop......

It was at Birchanger Green Services, near Stanstead on the M11, though I don't really think it matters where; if they catch you they won't like it. That applies pretty much anywhere. But I reckon if I went there again I'd be OK.

That station has a very short LPG hose, so I had to move the van so it was exactly next to the back doors so I could reach the bottle. That may have drawn attention.

Is the bottle in a separate ventilated gas locker or just strapped to the wall inside the living space?

It's in a separated ventilated gas locker remote from the living space normally, but the hose won't reach to there so I take the spare bottle out of that and strap the empty bottle inside the back doors for filling.

I'll just construct an external filling point with a flap and then they won't know the difference.

For the amount of work and extra cost, just fit an external fill point. I did and I've only got a 6kg bottle.

I have an Autogas refillable bottle with the filling point fixed inside the gas locker, I also have my 6kg calorlite bottle in the same locker & I can fit the filling adapter for this bottle before I go in to fill up.
