I have just downloaded Google earth 5 Beta - latest free version.

google earth

I caught a program on the box last night with James May (Top Gear bloke) speaking to, I think, a Sussex Univ person who stated that Google earth starts off as a sat view, but as you zoom in it turns into a photo taken from a plane. This rather takes the edge of it for me. Although it is still a very useful tool.

Nothing in life now seems to be what I thought it was!

Hi,
my Google Earth shows images from 2006? is a later version available with up to date pictures?

Happy Camping:)

Hi Telstar,
I see you don't like the 'plane view' of Google-earth either. It is really not a progress to land on a pan-cake
I noticed the Google-earths pictures are at least 5 years old, without any recent update, only for some pictures posted free by some amateurs, with small value.
In my opinion Google-earth did overshoot itself
But there is light in the darknes: your own http://www.multimap.com/ does it far more better. They use newer satelite pictures, and on a larger scale, and for more populated area's bird views of astounishing clarity (I can even see the colour of my frontdoor knob) and you have detailed maps with it (OS for the UK). And you can easily pintpoint satnavs POI's and print your map off.
Happy view in my backyard, but not from Google-earth :D

Like many others, a house at the end of our road has been demolished and a block of flats erected. Google earth shows a cleared site. So view is 6 to 8 months old. Multi map is still showing the house. So view is at least 2 years old.

Multimap still shows a 6 year old location where I live but have not viewed on the new google. I think it is your luck of the draw where the satellite is.

Downloaded ver 5 to my desktop and unfortunately Google Earth now does not work. Perhaps it may be Firefox but do not no. Will leave old version on my laptop
