I have had my TV package, broadband and land line with virgin media for several years now and been generally satisfied with the service. However it's not possible to use their app on the continent because of software that automatically detects your geographic location and blocks the signal, even when using a VPN.Apparently it's possible to re configure the hub/router to circumvent this but I didn't really want to do any jiggery pokery.

In my opinion if you are paying for a service it should be available to you wherever you are in the world.

Prices have risen steadily over the years and when a friend told me that Sky now allow you to use their TV package abroad with their Sky Go service without using a VPN I gave them a rather sceptical call yesterday. To my surprise the nice man(who was from Doncaster and spoke good English)confirmed that this was the case.He also explained that I had rung when Sky were having a flash sale,I thought it was just a sales pitch but went ahead and got a quote for the same package that I have now with Virgin media......it was over £40 p/m cheaper :).It was a no brainer so Sky is being installed in 3 weeks time.

All I've got to do now is ring Virgin media to give them a months notice of cancellation, biggest problem with them is understanding the asian customer service reps.

If anyone is thinking of changing provider then now might be a good time to ring Sky as it seems like a genuine flash sale and you have the added bonus of being able to watch your TV on a tablet/laptop when abroad without any messing around with VPN's.

My mate had sky and gave it up,incorrect bills bad service programs dropped etc,not evry one is happy with poor service.

Also have a look at Sky Mobile. They have some very flexible SIM-only packages.
I have one 10GB SIM, one 1GB SIM and one 500MB SIM. What I really like is the ability to have any unused data to into a Data Piggybank and then move it to any of the SIMs you want. Plus it lasts upto 3 years.
if you are a sporadic mobile data user like most camper folk, you don't loose any data not used in a particular month.

Sky uses the O2 Network BTW.

Thanks useful information. I'm in the process of looking, been with VM every since cabled down our road (about 15 years ago, was blueyonder then). Considering freeview posted this thread last week - Freeview Player Recorder

Will be interesting to see what they can offer.

BT good for me - Sim card part of home package - 25GB for £16 a month unlimited calls and txts as well. work well on 4g everywhere more or less and part of EE system.....never fail to get signal. worried next year though that roaming will fall out of system with ******, and pet passport scheme grrrrr

There is a one month cooling off period whereby the 18 month contract can be cancelled without penalty so I'll see how it goes and will update on here.
